Recommendation

The absence of managerial oversight at The Hershey Company is the core problem that
needs to be fixed. As was already said, lack of manager oversight is a major gripe of both child
labor demonstrators and regular workers. To advance in their CSR, the Hershey firm would need
to address and overcome this issue. Actions like implementing new policies and stricter trainings
could be advantageous in the managerial levels of the company, according to Samuel Culbert of
Oxford University Press, who stated that "good managers should have their focus directed
toward others, primarily subordinates, while maintaining a long-term performance orientation."
Strong corporate support and harsh disciplinary measures for policies that are not implemented
would be necessary for this.

It would be preferable to put such a plan into action seeing as how this seems to be the
root of some of the problems we are currently facing. Employee morale, conduct, and business
profitability are all significantly impacted by reputation. To demonstrate to the public and to
their own employees that they are committed to resolving these problems, Hershey's
Management would need to enforce and carry out the company's plans that have been publicly
announced. This would improve morale generally and introduce ethical thinking into the
workplace.

Another issue that has been identified was the child labor. Observing that child labor is
generally regarded as something that should not be tolerated. The Hershey Company should
make every effort to refute any allegations made against them. Hershey's is said to have "aided
and abetted the illegal enslavement of thousands of children on cocoa farms in their supply
chains," according to Aroq Limited. It would be in the company's best interests to more
effectively implement its anti-child trafficking policies. By doing this, businesses will not only
improve their reputation but also demonstrate their willingness to fight against unethical
behavior.

It would be advantageous for all the accused parties—Nestlé, Mars, Hershey, and
Mondelez—to work together if the rivalry were set aside. All parties can clear their names of the
accusations made against them by pooling their ideas and identifying the underlying cause of the
problem. Hershey's and many of the other cocoa giants will benefit with a more positive public
image and less accusations of hypocrisy if they band together and put more effort into the
policies they have put forth. Joining and supporting organizations like CARE and ICI are some
of the many programs "that monitor and remediate child labor, with a primary focus on
protecting children."
