Internal Criticism
The connection of the author
between his document is natural
and plausible because he is a
participant in the narrated event.
He played an important role as a
captain general, of the
magdiwang faction. Knowing this
fact, we can deduce that he is
familiar with the subject being in
the place in the indicated time.
Although he is not present in the
convention itself, his connection
to the document is plausible since
he is a historian. That is an
enough reason on to how familiar
he is with the subject. As a
historian, he is equipped with the
knowledge needed to relate to
these events.
External Criticism
- The author is directly
related to the events. He
is the captain general
during the time of the
event.
- As he was directly related
to the event, he was able
to have an inside view.
- He has the general and
technical knowledge to
report such events as for
he was one of the
participants in the said
event.
- He wrote his memoir on
the year 1927, 30 years
after the convention on
March 25, 1897.
- It was written originally in
Tagalog texts and later on
translated. His manner of
writing is direct and clear
to what he wants to
narrate.
- It is considered as primary
source because it provides
the reader an inside view
of what took place in the
Tejeros convention.
- The author is not directly
related to the events. He
is a well-known historian.
- He wrote this on 1947, 50
years after the
convention. According to
his work the Tejeros
convention took place on
March 22, 1897. The date
he mentioned is 3 days
earlier from what Alvarez
recorded. This date is
Emilio Aguinaldo’s
birthday.
- His manner of writing is
conventional or through
the perspective of the
foreigners but he also
 introduced the Filipino-
centric style.
- It is considered as
secondary for he is not
present in the event and
we can also consider the
time difference when he
wrote the account as to
the actual happening in
the event.
