and terms hence helping to widen my vocabulary and knowledge of different Caribbean
culture and will help me to use slangs of different cultures in my writing and even when I
speak with my researching skills this will help me to use slangs of different culture in English

Artifact#2

Artifact#3
https://www.britannica.com/art/dancehall-music
The first artifact was examined was the song “dancehall” by Vbyz Kartel which is a
reflection of dancehall music and what it entails. Before I always viewed dancehall in a
positive way since I would only listen to the clean version of the various song however I have
now realized that listening to dancehall music can make an impact on you for e.g. If you
listen to music about killing and fighting, you may believe you have the ability to kill or fight
anyone. I also noticed that I was staring like way and recognized how much music affects
you.
The second artifact that was examined was a poem “ Jamaican dancehall” by
Shawana This poem has helped me realize that dancehall is more than simply a musical
genre; it entails people talk about girlfriends, fat ganja spliffs, loud speakers blasting.
The third article that was examined was an article “Dancehall music” by Carolyn J.
Cooper I acquired a historical background of dancehall music, such as how dancehall is also
referred to as "ragga" or "dub" music.
Reflection 2
The first artifact chosen- a song titled “dancehall” by ‘Vybz Kartel’- was sung in
Jamaican patois. The singer used colloquial language to express his love for dancehall “
dancehall a mi everything” and also “ dancehall can’t stall” he sing in and aggressive tone to
really make you feel the riddim and make you want to dance
The second artifact that was examined was a poem “Jamaican dancehall” by Shawana
which was written in standard English. The poet used descriptive language it talk about “half
naked women, fat ganja spliff and sweaty man” the poem tone was lively and it created a
sense of realism
The third artifact that was examined was an article Dancehall music” by Carolyn J.
Cooper that was done in standard English the author used historical fact To educate the
reader about the history of dancehall when it started and the other names and events that took
place
Reflection 3
The process of completing this School Based Assessment has benefited me. I have not
only learnt a lot about different types of music and their impact on Caribbean culture by
taking part in this research, but I also increased my self-confidence and presentation skills.
Aside from that, I've always struggled with surpassing time constraints; nonetheless, after
finishing my SBA, I've gained information about my topic, 'The Impact of Music on
Caribbean Culture.'
Choosing the ideal artifact for my subtopic was easier than I imagined, owing to the
large scope of my subject. But, thanks to the Almighty, I was able to limit down my
investigation to three artifacts that I thought were worthy of my investigation. This SBA
assisted me in expanding my vocabulary as well as strengthening my research, reasoning, and
understanding abilities. I'm more fluent in both speaking and writing English.

ORAL PRESENTATION
Written Report
For many centuries, music has been a major influence on Caribbean Culture. Music
has
impacted the way we communicate, dress, think and it has been one of the most common
ways in which Caribbean people express themselves. Hence, it has sparked the interest of the
researchers to investigate the topic “The Impact of Music on the Caribbean Culture”. The
researchers selected the following topics to further investigate: soca(Shamian Yearwood),
Hip-Hop (Darryon Leitch), Dancehall (Jaden Watkins), Calypso (Reneise Luyken), Chutney
(Bibi Insafallie), and Reggae (Saskia Merritt). These subtopics were chosen because these
genres are the most popular in the Caribbean.
The researchers selected three (3) artifacts each for the genre of music they
were
investigating. From the six (6) researchers who provided eighteen (18) artifacts, the best three
(3) artifacts were selected among themselves. The first artifact being a poem titled “The great
Reggae Music” by ‘Selvin McRae’. This artifact was attached to the genre ‘Reggae’. The
poem was chosen as one of the best artifacts because it depicts the rich value, popularity and
history of reggae music in the Caribbean. The poem tends to stimulate its readers in the sense
that it is very rich, and contains a lot of relatable and interesting information about reggae
music on Caribbean Culture.(https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-great-reggae-music/).
The second-best artifact chosen by the researchers was a song titled “Sokah” by
‘Naila
Blackman’. The researchers chose this to be one of the best artifacts because the singer who
is a Trinidadian, expresses her love for soca music through dance, exaggeration of the chorus
“soca til I die…soca gives me life”, and lyrics. In the music video of this song, there is a lot
of historical events showcased pertaining to soca back then and now, and there is also a male
who gives a brief summary of the history of soca. From this artifact the researchers acquired
a lot about soca music in the Caribbean from the music video and its lyrics.
The last artifact selected by the researchers to be one of the best, was a video
presentation
titled “The History of Calypso Music”, featuring some of the oldest calypsonians who spoke
of the history of Calypso and their love for Calypso, as well as their calypsonian lifestyle (An
insightful & very informative look into The History of Calypso by Dr. Hollis “Mighty
Chalkdust” Liverpool, Aldric “Lord Pretender” Farrell & Dr. David Michael Rudder). What
made this artifact so interesting to the researchers was the richness of the genre and the
history of which the calypsonian spoke in the video. Not only did this artifact teach the
researchers so much about Calypso Music in the Caribbean and its history, but it built a love
for Calypso Music in the hearts of the young researchers. (https://youtu.be/uQzyf4lyXzk).
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that indeed there is fact that the different genre of
music does have a major impact on Caribbean culture and us an
individual and it can impact us from the way we dress to the way talk
