Advantage

Youth in the past until today receive confusing and conflicting information about relationships and sex
as they make the transition from childhood and adulthood. This increases the demand for young people
for reliable information that prepares them for adulthood.

Sexual Education empowers youth to make factual based decisions about their own sexuality and
relationships, allowing them to navigate the world in which gender-based violence, inequality, early and
unintended pregnancies, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) still pose dangers in their well-being.

The lack of quality sexual education leaves children vulnerable to harmful and malicious sexual
behaviors and sexual exploitation.

Sexual Education provides the Youth with education on human rights, gender equality, relationships,
reproduction, sexual behavior risks, prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections, present sexualities,
values of respect, inclusion, non-discrimination, equality, empathy, responsibility, consent, and
reciprocity.

Improves the knowledge and attitudes regarding sexual and reproductive health and behaviors.

Contrary to popular belief, Sexual Education does not increase sexual activity, sexual risk- taking
behaviors and Sexual Transmitted Infection rates, but reduces them instead.

Disadvantages

Sex Education is frowned upon by the Religious sector for tarnishing the image and sanctity of marriage,
sex, and sexual identity by looking at it as a tool or object in a more scientific approach.

Children going through adolescence may listen through Sexual Education but engage in unsafe sex
anyway because of the lack of support from their Parents to enforce and teach the importance of Sexual
Education at home.

Students often look at Sex Education as a subject of ridicule because of improper or lack of education by
the family.

Groups of people believe that their children should not be exposed to something as crude as sex
education in their school days due to their religion does not permit it.
