5 PORTERS FIVE FORCES COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Since the pandemic, e-books used by colleges have been in demand in the Philippines,
particularly for private academic institutions. A manufacturer of e-book readers, was able to analyse the
following areas both the internal and external factors that affect its operations. The following analysis
were listed below.

The table below shows the eight strategies used by e-book reader manufacturers that have been
determined and arranged according to where they fit into the five Porter’s forces competitive analysis.

In order for the e-book reader manufacturer to level up their competitive position in the market, there
will be certain and specific strategies to be formulated for it to occur. Here's the list of marketing
strategies we formulated:

• Identify the target audience. This is important because it will help the organization in planning
what would be the next steps to capture and attract those target markets.

• Maximize the utilization of the organization's website. Once the organization identifies the target
market, create a blog on your website that specifies what e-books are offered and available. As
mentioned above, college students, or students in general, are the target audience, thus the offered
ebooks are expected to be about academic subjects. Therefore, in your website state what subjects
the books cover, what it is about and more necessary information they need to know.

• Maximize the use of social media. Social media is a powerful instrument for any business and
organizations. This allows the organization to connect with customers on a more personal level. It’s
important to make the organization visible on all platforms and build credibility and trust with
potential customers. Moreover, the readers can reach out directly if they have questions or
complaints about the e-books. The advantage of the utilization of social media is that it can be used
anytime and anywhere, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. With that, the organization can
use social teasers that should be used to build awareness and interest in the books offered, as well as
to provide an incentive for people to purchase it. Like posting giveaways, sales or upcoming new
books, and especially, a callto-action link that is directed to the landing page or website of the
organization. In addition, you can also use paid ads in all platforms that are created to attract
potential customers.

• Make the landing page an eyecatcher. You need an engaging landing page that will capture their
attention. Make sure that it is well optimized in order for the customers to navigate it easily.
Moreover, formulate taglines that you can add in there, which can make potential customers avail the
organization's services.

• Have a collaboration with influencers. Influencers are people who have a significant amount of
influence on society and are highly knowledgeable and competent in an industry. Look for an
influencer who produces content that has similarity to your product and services and think about
working with him or her. Influencers are a great help in promoting your product or services. In return
for their service in promoting your business, you can give them something like a free subscription or
you can pay them in any form of compensation. Through this strategy, you will be able to reach your
ideal audience, and they will be more inclined to get involved with your product because you have
already established trust and a connection with them after an influencer endorses it.
• Reasonable price and best deals especially to students. In setting prices for your subscriptions,
you must think about and consider who your target market will be. Subscriptions should not be too
expensive; you must place a reasonable and affordable price considering the ideal audience is mostly
college and university students. You can also think of making some special offers or discounts to
your subscribers who are students. Such as a 50% discount if they are students, or if they pay for a
year of subscriptions, they have free access to your products or services for three months. This will
encourage your target market to become more engaged in using your products or services because of
the deals and discounts you will provide for them. This strategy will not just benefit your subscribers
but also you as a company.
