In my Research Paper, I hope to answer the question: Why is it easier for younger people to learn a new language than
older people? I am interested in investigating the brain’s elasticity and neural formation in a young child versus an older
person. As someone who has experienced the differences in language learning ability for people of different ages, this is a

The Experiential Project I have chosen to visit the Monument Crisis Center in hopes to teach basic English skills to both
elementary school students and adults. I will be creating a lesson plan for each. I will be teaching them over the course of
eight weeks. The volunteering portion of this project will include my volunteering for The Seven Hills School. I will
volunteer two and a half hours a week for one month. In the first hour, I will be shadowing an elementary Spanish
classroom. Following that for the next hour, I will be shadowing the eighth-grade Spanish classroom as well.

This interdisciplinary project involves library research, keeping track of progress, learning how to make a lesson plan,
teaching basic English skills, and volunteer service shadowing Spanish classes.

This will be challenging for me because I have never taught English. I anticipate that the entire project will take 25-40
hours of work. All lessons and practice tests will be created by me.
