1. What is Education for Education for sustainable Development consequently


sustainable Development? promotes competencies like critical thinking, imagining
future scenarios and making decision in a collaborative
way. It also empowers learner to take informed decisions
and responsible actions for environmental integrity,
economic sustainability and just society for present and
future generation, while respecting cultural diversity.
2. Why ESD important? ESD is not only about being environmentally friendly: it
also involves developing life skills including leadership,
communication and management.
3. How can we teachers instill As a WINS advocate, I encourage my co-teachers to install
sustainability in our water dispensers in the corridor and encourage also the
workplace? students to bring a reusable bottle to school; by this we
can teach our students saving money as well as water.
4. What role does education ESD promotes the development of the knowledge, skills,
play in sustainable understanding values and actions required to create a
development? sustainable world. Which guarantee environmental
protection and conservation, promotes solid equity and
encourage economic sustainability.
SUMMARY:
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) departs from traditional nature studies by
seeing the human environment as intricately related to the natural environment. The participatory
teaching and learning methods adopted are aimed at triggering action that departs from the one-off
sporadic activities of traditional campaigning. It aims at empowering individuals and communities to
become agents of change to achieve the well-being of the human race without compromising that of
future generations. It applies holistic approaches to target the environmental, economic and social
well-being of the human race and the whole planet.
