Mental Disability is a condition that affects an individual's cognitive or emotional functioning.
Orthopedic Disability is a physical disability which affects the musculoskeletal system, and that
which impacts a child or adult's education as well as their daily functioning.

* The teacher will talk about the common types of mental disabilities.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): A neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication
and social interaction skills.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): A condition that affects an individual's
ability to focus, pay attention, and control impulses.
Intellectual Disability (ID): A condition that affects an individual's intellectual functioning and
adaptive behavior.
Schizophrenia: Usually involve delusions, hallucinations or disorganized speech, and reflect an
impaired ability to function.
Depression: A mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in
activities.

*The teacher will discuss the common types of orthopedic disabilities


Cerebral Palsy (CP): A neurological disorder that affects movement, posture, and muscle tone.
Muscular Dystrophy (MD): A group of genetic disorders that cause progressive muscle
weakness and wasting.
Spina Bifida: A birth defect that affects the development of the spine and spinal cord.
Arthritis: A condition that causes inflammation and pain in the joints.
Amputations: The loss of a limb or body part due to injury or medical intervention.

* The students will be asked to reflect on what they have learned throughout the lesson.
* The teacher will divide the class into groups and invite each group to brainstorm ideas for how
they can help people with mental and orthopedic problems.
