    The vernier calliper is used to measure small distances. To read it, you record the first value on the fixed scale that the vernier scale passes. Then you note the digit on the vernier scale that is best aligned with the fixed scale and place it after the first value as additional digits of greater precision. For example, if the vernier scale passes 0.9 on the fixed scale and the 4 is best aligned, the reading would be 0.94 cm.

    VERNIER CALLIPER: how to read it

    1. Look for the first mark on the vernier scale in relation to the
    fixed scale and record the value that it is just past.

    2. Record the digit of the vernier scale that is best aligned


    with the fixed scale and place that value in the next digit
    position.
    0.9_ cm 4 aligned So reading 0.94 cm
    3.60 cm

    1.56 cm
