Part 1: READING COMPREHENSION

The Ancient Egyptians lived about 5,000 years ago, near the River Nile. Why did the
Egyptians live near the river? Because they needed water from the Nile for their farms. They
also caught fish from the river.

Ancient Egyptians had different kinds of animals as pets. They had cats, dogs, monkeys and
birds in their homes. Rich Egyptians had lions, crocodiles and hippos.

The king of the Ancient Egyptians was called the Pharaoh. The youngest pharaoh was
Tutankhamun. He was only nine years old when he became king. The pharaohs had nice
clothes and jewellery. They had golden jewellery with diamonds and colourful stones. Their
clothes were long and beautiful. The pharaohs ate good food too – cheese, meat, grapes,
peas, bread, milk and fish.

Dear Students

We are all very excited about the school trip to Cappadocia on Monday
5th August. We are going to meet at school at eight o’clock. The bus leaves at

We are going to stay in a hotel in the centre of the city. We are going
to stay there for four days. This gives us enough time to see Cappadocia.

On Tuesday 6th we are going to visit the Göreme Open-Air Museum. We


are going to see very old wall paintings.

On Wednesday 7th we are going to ride on horses. Cappadocia means


‘Land of Beautiful Horses’ and the horses are really beautiful in Cappadocia.

On Thursday 8th we are going to take a hot-air balloon tour. We are


going to fly above fantastic places around Cappadocia. The hot-air balloon tour
is going to be about 70 minutes. It is the perfect place for taking photographs.

We are going to go home on the morning of Friday 9th. Before we get


on the bus, we are going to have a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs,
white cheese, tomatoes and orange juice.
