INTRODUCTION

RESEARCH TITLE; Facebook and Academic Performance Use of Technology and its Impact

on Academic Performance as Experience by Grade 11 Students od Surabay National High

School.

Background of study

Facebook allows students to create groups where they can engage without the need

for meeting physically. This has promoted networking among learners who have seen these

virtual groups are more convenient easier channels where they can engage with their fellow

classmate.

A very important technological impact on education is increased interactivity and

class engagement. In addition better overall comprehension, practical learning, time management

and combined methodologies are just some of the impacts that technology has had on students

learning.

According to Al- Dheleal and tasir(2017) using Facebook for the purpose of

students’ academic performance “Facebook has now become the most popular social networking

tool among university- age Yputh. Its popularity has transformed it into an acceptable platform

for educational purpose. The findings of the study revealed that students have a positive views

towards the use of Facebook for online interaction with peers, additionally the findings reveals
that there is a relationship between students perceive online interaction via Facebook and

academic performance.

J.L Harris (2016) on her study “one to one technology and its effect on student

academic achievement and motivation” that technology could be factor in students’ academic

achievement and motivation to be at school. These findings are important due to the

technological shifts that school are currently facing, with more technology for students to

participate.

Effects of technology in the level of performance of senior high school in STI

college megcauyan, accordingly classroom, student don’t “LEARN” technology. Technology is

use for authentic learning. It is a means, not and end.

The Philippine star created and article on july 2014 about how technology helps

student study well, according to it more and more schools use technology such us computer and

internet in their classroom and several improvement on students have seen and they are now

getting better education .

According to john paul Espinosa (2016) advance have greatly change and that

teaching is no longer confined to the traditional face to face delivery of lessons. Now via internet

we can also learn not only in the classroom but also outside the school and get additional

information trough web and also interactive activity.

In the study of jimson mariano (2017) the Philippine government is committed to

bring the educational system into a modernized status, particularly on the teaching-learning, in
its effort to make every students at pad with other students in other developing countries, They

also want to harness and enhance the power of teaching by producing a student empowered in

this highly globalized world.

Given all these situations, the research wanted to study if Facebook and

academic performance use of technology would have an affects on the academic performance of

grade 11 students of surabay national high school.
