PROJECT PROPOSAL
Rationale

Guided by the Department of Health FOURmula One Plus thrust and Universal
Health care Frame, the National Safe Motherhood Program is committed to provide
rational and responsive policy direction to its local government partners in the delivery
of quality maternal and newborn health services with integrity and accountability using
proven and innovative approaches.
Before COVID -19, the Philippines saw about 2,600 women dying every year due
to complications from pregnancy or childbirth. The Philippines unfortunately showed one
of the highest rates of adolescent fertility in Asia prior to COVID – 19.
Health promotion and maternal mortality prevention involves strategic change in
the design of safe motherhood services. Through these campaign, we can empower
pregnant patients to make healthier choices and reduce their risk of disease and
mortality. At our level, this can reduce maternal mortality rate, improve quality of life and
improve the availability of healthcare and related services.

Objectives
1. To enhance knowledge and awareness of pregnant patients of Safe Pregnancy
2. To reduce rates of morbidity and mortality due to Direct Causes of Maternal
Death
3. To increase linkages between Maternal Health Program and community-based
population and individual services

Activities
A. Preparatory Phase
1. Preparation of approval letter and Project Proposal
2. Coordination meeting with chief executives, stakeholder and partner agencies

B. Implementation Phase
1. Lecture on Cardiovascular Disease, Prevention & Complications
2. Medical Consultation
3. Documentation of events

C. Post-implementation Phase
1. Monitor and evaluate deliverables on said target area
