An overview about the cooperative training

Cooperative training is a set of skills and experiences that are offered to the student within an
institutional framework or within one of the fields of practice, with the aim of helping the
student to acquire various knowledge, field experiences, and technical skills, in addition to
modifying his personal characteristics and behaviors, so that this contributes significantly to
his achievement. Student professional growth, by linking theoretical knowledge with practical
application and providing students with the opportunity to discover their capabilities, desires
and the needs of the labor market in the Kingdom.

It is also a group of practical experiences, which depend on theoretical references such as

academic courses, and field training is characterized by the fact that it is not applied within a
specific area, but in more than one place, and depends on the guidance of trainees or individuals
participating in field training by a person who is practically qualified in this field, and possesses
Adequate skills that help his success in applying the objective of the field training.

The importance of field training:

Field training is of great importance to the student preparation program at the College of
Business Administration. The importance of field training is as follows:
- Field training represents the field of first experience for the student, by applying what
he learned in the real environment.
- It gives the student the opportunity to deal with the various pressures that he may face
in the labor market.
- Helps the student to develop his understanding of the procedures of the educational
process.

2
- Enhance students' individual learning skills.
- Provides an opportunity to interact and collaborate with trainers with experience in the
field.
- Gives students a high level of positive feeling and satisfaction towards the profession .
- Helps the student understand the needs and characteristics of the environment in which
he is supposed to work.

Field training is an effective means to help the student acquire new capabilities and skills that
he did not possess, and these skills enable the student to expand his concepts, modify his
directions, and consolidate his ability to innovate, create, and renew. He links the (theoretical)
aspect of the acquired knowledge with the practical (produced work) aspect .

Field Training Objectives:

1. Enriching the experiences of university students, both male and female, by linking academic
studies in the classroom with realistic practical situations in the work environment.

1. The first stage (from 30/1/2023 to 12/2/2023)
Methods of issuing the necessary permits to start electrical field work
In Saudi Arabia, the process for obtaining permits to conduct electrical field work may vary
depending on the specific region and local authorities responsible for granting licenses and
permits. However, in general, the following are some methods for obtaining the necessary
permits to start electrical field work in Saudi Arabia:
1. Obtaining a Contractor's License: To conduct electrical field work in Saudi Arabia, the
contractor or company must be licensed by the Saudi Arabian General Investment
Authority (SAGIA) and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Commerce and Investment.
The licensing process involves submitting an application and meeting certain
requirements, such as having a registered office in Saudi Arabia, having a certain level
of capital, and having qualified personnel.
2. Obtaining a Work Permit: Foreign workers who are not Saudi nationals must obtain a
work permit, or Iqama, to work in Saudi Arabia. The permit is issued by the Saudi
Arabian Ministry of Labor and Social Development and is valid for a specific period of
time. The application process involves submitting a job offer, obtaining a medical
certificate, and passing a security check.
3. Obtaining a Contractor Classification: To bid on government contracts in Saudi Arabia,
contractors must obtain a classification from the Saudi Arabian General Contractors
Authority (GCA). The classification is based on the contractor's financial capacity,
technical ability, and experience.
4. Obtaining an Electrical Permit: To perform electrical field work in Saudi Arabia, an
electrical permit must be obtained from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Energy, Industry
and Mineral Resources. The permit is issued after the electrical system has been
inspected and found to be in compliance with local regulations and standards.
It is important to note that the specific procedures and requirements for obtaining permits to
start electrical field work may vary depending on the region and local authorities in Saudi
Arabia. Therefore, it is recommended to check with the relevant authorities and seek legal
advice to ensure compliance with all local regulations and requirements.

2. The second stage (from 13/2/2023 to 26/2/2023)
Security and safety to practice field work in the field of electricity
Today, any office or workplace setting operates on electricity. Electrical equipment, from
computers to machinery can all be potentially hazardous and can cause shock and burn injuries
if improperly used or maintained. Though most general personnel don’t need specialized
electrical safety training, if you work around electricity, but are not qualified to directly handle
electrical components, it’s important to follow electrical safety-related work practices to keep
yourself and others safe. Here are electrical safety tips for the workplace help us avoid
electrical hazards:

1. Prevent All Potential Contact with Live Electrical Current

The best way to stay safe is to stay away from electrical hazards. Unqualified personnel
should not interact or come close to electrical currents greater than 50V. If you must work in
the same area or room as an electrical hazard or equipment operating on more than 50V,
maintain a safe distance. All panel doors should be shut, and there should be no exposed wires
around your work area before you begin your operations.

Figure 1:circuit breakers

2. De-Energize Equipment and Use Lockout/Tagout

Exposed, live electrical parts must be de-energized before work on or near them is
permitted. Prevent accidents and isolate electrical energy by locking and tagging out the
electrical system or parts of the system according to your company’s Lockout/Tagout policy.
Lockout/Tagout exists to protect employees from electrical hazards while performing
servicing and maintenance activities.

5
Figure 2: Electrical safety equipment’s

3. Ensure safe use of electrical equipment

Properly using all electrical equipment can go a long way to ensure everyone’s safety in
the workplace.
Employees should take care to handle electrical cords properly:
• Always unplug cords by pulling on the plug head, rather than the cord
• Don’t press or overstretch electrical cords
• Don’t fasten cords with staples
• Don’t hang electrical equipment from cords
Additionally, all cords and plugs in the workplace should be visually inspected for external
defects prior to use. If you encounter a cord or plug with damage, do not use that equipment.

4. Install Proper Physical Barriers Around Electrical Hazards

Physical barriers should always be used to protect employees from any electrical
hazards. Cabinet doors on electrical panels should always be closed, and panels should not
have holes where an employee could come into contact with exposed wires.
If cabinets cannot be closed, or if an electrical hazard cannot be fully closed in, shields,
barriers, or insulating materials should be used.
For example, if a qualified electrician is performing maintenance on an electrical panel and
must keep the panel open, physical barriers should be put in place to prevent others from
entering the area. Signs should be placed to warn employees of the hazard, and the area in front
of the electrical panel should be kept free of any obstructions.

6
Figure 3: Hazard warning

5. Beware of conductive tools and cleaning materials

If you are working in an area where an electrical hazard is present, always assume that
electrical parts are live, and act accordingly. Do not use conductive tools in the area.
If you are cleaning the area, note that some cleaning materials are conductive as well and
require additional caution. Solvent and water-based cleaning materials are electrically
conductive, as are steel wool and metalized cloth. Keep these cleaning products, as well as
any conductive tools, away from live electrical parts and equipment.

6. When working overhead, look above for electrical lines

When performing any work or maintenance overhead, beware of electrical lines. In most
workplaces, there is the potential for live electrical equipment and parts above the floor level,
which are only accessible with ladders or elevated platforms. Be sure to use a portable ladder
with non-conductive side rails, and stay at least 10 feet away from any exposed electrical
lines while you are performing overhead work.

Figure4: Warning

7. Use extreme caution with flammable materials

Electrical equipment that can cause ignition must not be used where flammable vapors,
gases, or dust are present. The only exception to this rule is when qualified personnel take
measures to lockout and isolate electrical energy sources before these potentially flammable

7
materials may be used or the electrical equipment is designed for use under these types of
conditions.

8. Only qualified personnel should work on live electrical wires

If you encounter a live electrical wire, stay away. Only qualified personnel with the
proper training should work on live electrical wires. The same electrical safety precaution
applies to hazardous electrical equipment. Any live electrical hazard should only be
approached and managed by qualified personnel. If you see a live electrical wire that is not
attended, you should notify the appropriate electrical safety personnel, who should
immediately place physical safety barriers.
9. Always follow your company’s electrical safety work practices
Every company has unique electrical safety work practices depending on the electrical
equipment and hazards present in your industry and workplace. It is important to always
follow your company’s specific electrical safety work practices to keep yourself, and other
employees safe.

10. Electrical shock can be deadly

In every situation, treat an electrical part as if it is live. Electrically live parts do not look
different from de-energized parts. To ensure safety, it’s best to assume that any electrical part
is live. Take precautions to keep power on its path, and protect yourself. You can’t be too
careful when it comes to electricity.

Figure5: High voltage warning

Electricity is a common, but dangerous, workplace hazard. Only those who are qualified to
work with electrical components should do so. Otherwise, it is always in your best interest to
keep away from live electrical currents.

3. The third stage (from 27/2/2023 to 12/3/2023)
Methods of Electrical Wiring and Security Measures
Electrical wiring is an important part of any building or structure, as it provides the necessary
power for lights, appliances, and other electrical devices. Proper wiring methods and security
measures must be followed to ensure safety and prevent electrical hazards. In this article, we
will discuss some common methods of electrical wiring and important security measures that
should be taken.

Methods of Electrical Wiring:

1. Conduit Wiring: This involves the use of metal or PVC conduits to enclose electrical
wires and provide protection against physical damage, moisture, and other
environmental factors.

Figure 6: conduit wiring

2. Surface Wiring: This involves running electrical wires on the surface of walls,
ceilings, or floors, and covering them with conduit or raceways for protection.

Figure 7: Surface wiring

9
3. Concealed Wiring: This involves running electrical wires behind walls, ceilings, or
floors, and covering them with plaster or other materials to conceal them.

Figure 8: Concealed wiring

4. Armored Wiring: This involves the use of armored cables that are enclosed in a metal
sheath to provide protection against physical damage, moisture, and other
environmental factors.

Figure 9: Armored wiring

Security Measures:
1. Grounding: Grounding is an important safety measure that helps protect against
electrical shocks and fires. It involves connecting electrical devices and appliances to
the ground to provide a path for excess electrical current to flow in the event of a fault.
2. Circuit Breakers and Fuses: Circuit breakers and fuses are important safety devices
that protect against overloading and short circuits. They automatically shut off the

10
electrical circuit if too much current flows through it, preventing damage to the wiring
and appliances, and reducing the risk of electrical fires.
3. GFCI Outlets: Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets are designed to protect
against electrical shocks by detecting imbalances in the electrical current and shutting
off the circuit if necessary.
4. Electrical Inspections: Regular electrical inspections by a qualified electrician can help
identify potential hazards and prevent electrical accidents. Inspections should be
performed in accordance with local regulations and standards.
5. Proper Wiring Methods: Proper wiring methods, such as using the correct size and
type of wire, properly securing wires, and following manufacturer instructions, can
help prevent electrical hazards and ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical
systems.
In conclusion, proper electrical wiring methods and security measures are essential to ensure
the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems. It is important to follow local
regulations and standards, and to seek the advice of a qualified electrician when installing or
modifying electrical systems. Regular inspections and maintenance can help identify
potential hazards and prevent electrical accidents.

Transformer Types

A transformer is a widely used device in the electrical and electronics domain. It is an

electromagnetic device which follows the basic principle of electromagnetism discovered by
Michael Faraday. We have covered about Transformers construction and operation in detail
in previous tutorial. Here we will cover different types of transformers used in different types
of applications. However, all types of transformers follow the same principles but they have
different construction method. And with little bit of effort you can also build your own
transformer, but while building the transformer one should always follow transformer
protection techniques.

11
Transformer Types based on Voltage Level

A Transformer can have multiple types of construction. Transformer does not have any
electrical connection from one side to another; still, the two electrically independent coils can
conduct the electricity by electromagnetic flux. A transformer can have multiple coils or
windings on the primary side as well as on the secondary side. In several cases, multiple
primary sides, where two coils are connected in series, often called as a center tapped. This
center tapped condition can also be seen on the secondary side.

Transformers can be constructed in a way that it can convert the voltage level of the primary
side to the secondary side. Depending on the voltage level, the transformer has three
categories. Step Down, Step Up and Isolation Transformer. For the Isolation transformer, the
voltage level is the same for both sides.

1. Step-Down Transformer

Figure 10: Step down transformer

Step down Transformer is used in both Electronics and Electrical domain. A step-down
transformer converts the primary voltage level to a lower voltage across the secondary
output. This is achieved by the ratio of primary and secondary windings. For step-down
transformers the number of windings is higher across the primary side than the secondary
side. Therefore, the overall winding ratio of primary and secondary always remains more
than 1.

In electronics, many applications run on 5V, 6V, 9V, 12V, 24V or in some cases 48V. To
convert the single-phase power outlet voltage 230V AC to the desired low voltage level, Step
Down transformers are required. In instrumentation as well as in many electrical types of

12
equipment, Step-Down transformer is the primary requirement for the Power section. They
are also used in power adapters and cell phone charger circuits.

In electrical, step down transformers are used in electrical distribution system which works
on very high voltage to ensure low loss and cost-effective solution for long distance power
delivery requirements. To convert the high voltage to a low voltage supply line, Step down
transformer is used.

2. Step-Up Transformer

Figure 11:: Step up transformer

Step Up transformer is exactly opposite of the step-down transformer. Step up

transformer increase the low primary voltage to a high secondary voltage. Again it is
achieved by the ratio of primary and secondary winding ratio. For the Step Up transformer,
the ratio of the primary winding and the Secondary winding remains less than 1. That means
the number turns in secondary winding is higher than the primary winding.

In electronics, step up transformers often used in stabilizers, inverters etc where low voltage
is converted to a much higher voltage.

A step-up transformer is also used in Electrical power distribution. High voltage is required
for power distribution related application. Step up transformer is used in the grid to step up
the voltage level before the distribution.

13
3. Isolation Transformer

Figure 12: Isolation transformer

Isolation transformer does not convert any voltage levels. The Primary voltage and the
secondary voltage of an isolation transformer always remain the same. This is because
the primary and the secondary winding ratio is always equal to the 1. That means the number
of turns in primary and secondary winding is same in isolation transformer.

The isolation transformer is used to isolate the primary and secondary. As discussed
previously, the transformer does not have any electrical connections between primary and
secondary, it is also used as an isolation barrier where the conduction happens only with the
magnetic flux. It is used for safety purpose and to cancel noise transfer from primary to
secondary or vice-versa.

Transformer Types based on Winding Arrangement

The transformer can be classified using winding orders. One of the popular types is Auto
Winding Transformers.

Auto Winding transformer

Till now, the primary and secondary winding is fixed but in case of an auto-winding
transformer, the primary and the secondary coil can be connected in series and the center
tapped node is movable. Depending on the center tapped position, the secondary voltage can
be varied.

14
Figure 13: Auto transformer

The auto is not the short form of Automatic; rather it is to notify the self or single coil. This
coil forms a ratio which consists of two parts, primary and secondary. The position of the
center tap node determines the primary and secondary ratio thus varying the output voltage.

The most common use is the VARIAC, an instrument to produce variable AC from a steady
AC input. It is also used in Power transmission and distribution related applications where
the high voltage lines are needed to be changed frequently.

Types of Transformers based on Usage

There are several types of transformers also available which works in a specific domain.
Both electronics and electrical sectors, several dedicated transformers are used as a step-
down or step-up transformer based on the application of application. So, the transformers can
be classified as below based on usage:

1. Power Domain

• Power Transformer
• Measurement Transformer
• Distribution Transformer

2. Electronics Domain

• Pulse Transformer
• Audio Output Transformer

15
1. Transformers used in Power domain

In Electrical, the Power domain deals with the power generation, measurement, and
distribution. However, it is a very large field where transformers are an essential part to
accommodate safe power conversion and successful power delivery to the substation and to
the end users.

The transformers which are used in the power domain can be both outdoor and indoor but
mostly outdoor.

(a) Power Transformer

Power Transformers are larger in size and used to transfer the energy to the substation or the
public electricity supply. This transformer acts as a bridge between the power generator and
the primary distribution grid. Depending on the Power rating and specification, Power
transformers can further be classified into three categories: Small power transformer,
Medium Power transformers, and the Large power transformers. The rating can be more than
30KVA to the 500-700KVA or in some cases that can be equal to or more than 7000KVA
for small rated power transformer. The medium rated power transformer can be up to 50-100
MVA whereas large rated power transformers are capable to handle more than 100MVA.

Figure 14: Power transformer

16
Due to very high power generation, the construction of a power transformer is also
critical. The construction includes solid insulating peripherals and well balanced cooling
system. The most common power transformers are filled with oils.

The main principle of the power transformer is to convert the Low voltage high current to a
high voltage low current. This is required to minimize the power loss in the power
distribution system.

Another important parameter for the Power transformer is the phase availability. Typically
Power transformers works in three phase system, but in some cases, Single phase small
power transformers are also used. Three Phase Power transformers are the most costly and
efficient than the single phase power transformers.

(b) Measurement Transformer

Measurement transformer is often referred to as an instrument transformer. This is another

commonly used measurement instrument in the power domain. A measurement transformer
is used to isolate the main power and convert the current and voltage in a smaller ratio to its
secondary output. By measuring the output, the Phase, Current and Voltage of the actual
power line can be measured.

Figure 15: Measurement transformer

The above image is showing the construction of the current transformer.

17
(c) Distribution Transformer

This is used in the last phase of the power distribution system. Distribution transformers are
step down transformer, which converts High grid voltage to the end customer required
voltage, 110V or 230V. It can also be single phase or three phases.

Figure 16: Distribution transformer

Distribution transformers can be smaller in shape as well as bigger, depending on the

conversion capacity or ratings.

Distribution transformers can be further categorized into based on the type of insulation it
uses. It can be a dry type or can be liquid-immersed. It is made using laminated steel plates
mostly constructed in C shape as a core material.

Distribution transformer also has a different type of classification based on the location it is
used. The transformer can be mounted on a utility pole, if so, it is called a pole mounted
distribution transformers. It can be placed inside of an underground chamber, mounted on a
concrete pad (pad mounted distribution transformer) or inside an enclosed steel box.

Generally, distribution transformers have a rating of less than 200kVA.

4. The fourth stage (from 13/3/2023 to 23/3/2023)
Solar Panel Installation and Maintenance

Solar System Components

Solar systems are made up of solar panels (modules), a mounting system, and a solar inverter
with computerized controller. Solar panels produce DC electricity from sunlight. Then the
inverter converts the generated electricity into AC, so that it can be used in the household.
The computerized controller manages the solar system and ensures optimal performance. If
you want battery backup system or an off-the-grid solar system, a battery is required.

Solar installation is becoming the future trend as other resources are gradually depleted.
Along with that, geothermal energy brings us many fantastic benefits such as cost savings
and environmental protection. To own this energy source, you will need to work with
professionals or contractors for sun installation. Even if you’re not directly involved in the
installation, understanding the process and the issues involved will help you make better
decisions. This article will help you know in detail how to install and maintain a sun power
system.

Figure 17:Solar system components

19
The basic process of solar installation and solar system maintenance
A precise and logical plan is essential for a successful insolation installation project. This
plan will help you understand the steps you need to perform as well as the cost of each.
Especially the components required for the solar system installation, installation, and
maintenance procedures. Let’s look at these in more detail in the sections below.

1. Solar installation: Key components and tools for installing a solar power system
The most common and economical location to install an insolation system is on the roof of a
building. Experts will assess the roof and installation orientation, the specifications for sun
installation to capture the most sunlight. However, if it is not feasible to install on the roof,
the solar panels will be installed on the ground as long as there are no sun obstructions.
Before proceeding with the installation, it is necessary to identify and prepare the system’s
essential components. Photovoltaic panel components are very bulky, and great care should
be taken to avoid damage, especially when transporting materials to the roof.
The main ingredients include:
▪ Photovoltaic panels
▪ Rack system
▪ Roof sealant
▪ Power inverter
▪ Battery
▪ Charge controller
▪ Energy meter
▪ Heatsink (if needed)
▪ Wiring components for connecting system lines
In addition, to serve the installation work will need tools such as drills, screwdrivers, metal
cutting saws, electrical wiring tools.

20
Figure 18:Solar panel installation

2. Solar Installation Process: Basic steps in the process of installing a solar power system
There are many issues to consider when making a renewable energy installation plan.
However, you’ll want to start by hiring a reputable solar service like VIVABLAST. They
will provide all the information you need to come up with an efficient solar system
installation plan and get it right.
The following steps are the basic process for roof top solar system installation:
• Check for Compatibility
The installation expert team will have the first review of the roof and assess whether it is
qualified to install the solar panel system. Ensure the location gets the maximum sun,
considerable enough, and sturdy sufficient to install the panels. It will be necessary to
remove or prune tree branches and upgrade the electrical panel system in many cases.
• Select size for the system
Depending on the need to use electricity and the purpose, each solar panel system will be
different. You will need to decide on the desired size for the contractor to develop the most
specific and appropriate plan.
• Sign up for construction slips
Before making alternative energy installation plans, you need to obtain a building permit
from the locality. After having the approval results, the contractor can immediately
implement the plan. Usually, large contractors have quality components and materials
available for installation, so you won’t need to waste time searching for supplies.

21
• Set up the rack system
The installation technician will measure and mark the location to position the base system of
the panels on the roof or the ground. Then fix the rack system to the surface in a direction
that receives a lot of sunlight.
• Install solar panels
Install the solar panels to the brackets using the clamps provided to secure them in place.
Then wire each panel to adjacent panels and install the wiring.
• Install the heatsink
The heatsink is a device that aims to reduce the heat generated by the panels and increase the
system’s efficiency. In many cases, they are integrated with the panels, and if not, an external
heatsink will be required.
• Install solar inverter
The next step in the sun installation process is to connect the solar inverter to the system. The
contractor will choose the most convenient location to install the inverter, ensuring that they
operate efficiently and safely.
• Check the electricity and connect the system to the electric circuit
Before connecting the solar panel wiring to the home, a technician will recheck all the
wiring. After meeting the requirements, the inverter will be connected directly to the
electrical panel and to the building’s electrical network for electricity use and exploitation.
The final step is to power on, and test run. So the solar system installation is complete.

3. Solar Panel Maintenance: Work required after completing the solar installation
Solar panels require minimal maintenance because the solar battery system has no moving
parts. There are not many fees after you have invested in a high-quality geothermal
installation.

22
Figure 19:Solar panel maintenance

However, you should periodically check the components and the entire system several times
per year for dirt and foreign objects. Keeping the panels clean and free of obstructions will
ensure peak performance. Moreover, reputable contractors will provide maintenance and
inspection services for your solar system. They will also offer general maintenance and usage
requirements to keep the system in good working order for the long term.
Renewable energy systems are a cost-effective way to save money while also providing a
reliable, clean energy supply. On the other hand, the solar energy system is a time-
consuming and challenging task. As a result, most solar installations are completed by a
professional solar contractor. A contractor will also be able to assist you in obtaining any
incentives to which you are entitled.
