1. Chapter 1: Business Report

1.1 Introduction of the Company
Galli Maps is a mobile application designed and developed in Nepal. The company behind the
Airlift Technology has released the app in beta phase on play store. But the company says the full
version of the app will be out in month .Airlift Technologies where Mr. Maharjan was already
engaged was serving with drone mapping services for local bodies and engineering consultancies.
Then, the idea of creating localized maps dawned on him. He says the Galli Maps app can help
show many missing streets and alleys not visible on Google Maps. AS the map is a localized
solution for Nepalese, it uses Nepali vocabulary. The “Galli” in the app’s name itself refers to the
alleys.
Galli Maps, an application which helps to locate houses and landmarks, was launched in April
2022 in Kirtipur Municipality. The application also uses house numbers assigned by the local
governments. “While the app can be useful during disaster response, it enables e-commerce
businesses to actually make delivery at the doorstep. “Many countries across the globe have their
own software and applications for navigation and finding locations, which, the Nepali developers
say, are more precise than Google Maps. While Galli Maps allows users to search for the nearby
parking spaces, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, public toilets and ATMs, Baato has an additional
feature for searching for pharmacies. The name "Galli" is derived from the narrow alleys in the
region, and our app is set to update the way people move around in Nepal.
The rise of technology and internet has brought unprecedented changes to the way we live our
lives, more so in current times. With the push of a button, you can now catch a ride at any hour of
the day or get food delivered to your doorstep. But Nepal still has a huge gap in navigating houses
and landmarks which is not easily possible on other digital map services. Young tech companies
such as Foodmandu, Pathao and Esewa have fundamentally altered how businesses operate and
the way we use digital maps to find the alleys as they navigate through a city.
An aeronautical engineer, Raj Bikram Maharjan, CEO& Co-founder of Airlift Technologies which
has introduced Galli Maps, was always interested in making and flying drones as a hobby. He had
the opportunity to come back to Nepal to work after he completed his studies and within a couple
of months, there was the mega earthquake. “Even though flying drones was just a hobby, I actively

1
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

used my drones to help victims in the rescue operations during that time,” he says, adding, “I never
thought it would be a useful tool for me but my community and neighboring cities were able to
benefit from my drones.”
1.1.1 About the company
Galli Maps is one of the helpful apps that lets you find the location in alleys with its 360-degree
street views. The 360° street views aren’t quite useful at this time but users will be able to use it
efficiently soon. However, the app allows you to search for specific house numbers and also
provides accuracy while directing various places. The app is getting popular among e-commerce
platforms and ride-sharing companies. There are other available apps like Google Maps and Apple
Maps, Galli Maps is here to create its own value in the market. Unsurprisingly, it has also received
awards for being a startup, innovative product, and rising star at the Info developers ICT Awards.
Maharjan recalls a few instances that led him towards launching Galli Maps. As a part of the
Kasthamandap Rebuild Committee, he was helping friends gather information on Kasthamandap
but realized there was near to null archaeological information or documentation. He then learnt the
concept called photogrammetry which he shares is a German technology that merges 2D pictures
and converts them into 3D pictures. “This helped immensely in taking forward the reconstruction
work,” he shares. Later, he had the opportunity to go to India for South Asia Connect to get trained
in entrepreneurial studies. “Till then whatever I was doing was just a hobby but the training helped
me understand the nuances of business, about entrepreneurship and most importantly, the value of
sustaining in the market,” he states. He, thus, decided to leave his engineering job and started 3D
modelling and mapping of heritage sites and different cities which helped in urban planning.
Features of Galli maps
Airlift Technologies CEO and cofounder Raj Bikram Maharjan says that the Galli Maps app is
developed after mapping the alleys (gallies) which are not visible on Google Maps.
“Presently, Google Maps is popular worldwide but it is not apt for Nepal. However, the Galli Maps
app is developed by Nepalese to suit our country’s map needs,” Maharjan said.
Although in beta form, Galli Maps can act as an effective tool for locating our destinations. The
app lets us search for house numbers. Soon, users will also get the popular 360 Street view,
and find directions to a choice of location.

1.1.2 Mission of the company

The mission of the company is designed and developed in Nepal to facilitate easy navigation
through the narrow gallies and streets of the Kathmandu valley.
1.1.3 Vision of the company
Our app is built to help business and individuals, enabling them to deliver goods and services to
their customers with ease, making delivery to doorsteps a reality.
1.1.4 Specific area of your involvement in the organization
The foremost responsibility of mine in our organization is to maintain accurate financial records
and prepare essential financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash
flow statements. All to keep all the records of files and maintain the bills.
1.2 The Organization
1.2.1 Product or services provided by the company
It was only in 2022 that Maharjan was finally able to launch Galli Maps. “It was inaugurated by
the mayor of Kirtipur Municipality as they were the first municipality to introduce house
numbering system in the app,” he says. However, he reveals that the beta phase of the app had
officially begun in the middle of 2020 and it was in the prototype stage. It took another year to
fully develop the app. Moreover, Maharjan shares that they needed another five months to
complete their research. He adds that to make sure that the app is as good as it can come, he roped
in a friend, Janam Maharjan, as cofounder as he is an information and communication engineer
and had experience in antenna design and mobile app development.
While talking about the workings of the app, Maharjan says Galli Maps can be a useful tool for
finding locations by using the well-known 360 Street view. “We can look up house numbers using
the app and get accurate directions to a selection of locations,” he elaborates. The company has
been providing its services to e-commerce platforms, ride-sharing companies and World Link.
Though the app has been gaining popularity in recent days, he explains it was not an easy start.
“Creating a map is very time consuming and one needs a lot of resources. Also, it is financially
intensive, there is literally no help forthcoming from the government and collecting data is a
stupendous task,” he adds.
Though there were maps in existence already like Google Maps, Apple Maps and maps.me, Galli
Maps has been able to carve a niche for itself and also won the Startup, Product and Rising Star

3
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

Innovation award at the Info developers ICT Awards. With recognition comes further
responsibility and plans to further enhance the service Galli Maps has been providing in the days
to come. Using high resolution drone image, the app has house ID numbers of Kathmandu
Metropolitan, Kirtipur Municipality, and Kageshwori Municipality. Soon, it will have the house
numbers of Lalitpur Metropolitan and other cities and he has plans to expand to other regions too.
1.2.2 Objective of the organization
“Galli Maps is a mobile application designed and developed in Nepal. The purpose of Galli Maps
is to help locate houses and landmarks. The name ‘Galli’ comes from the narrow alleys of the
Kathmandu valley which is not visible on other map platforms,”
1.2.3 Overall organization structure

organization. Next under these executives comes the General Manager who looks closely over all
the other divisions namely: R&D Department, Technical Department, Account Department,
Business Development Department, IT Department, Support Department, and the Front Desk
Officers. The channel partners are the people associated with the organization working in different
branches of the organization.

Overall, my role as an accountant at Airlift Technology is integral to maintaining financial

stability, providing valuable financial insights, and ensuring the company's adherence to financial
best practices and regulations.
2.2.1 Task
As an accountant at Airlift Technology, one of my key responsibilities was to manage and maintain
the company's financial records efficiently. This involved uploading pictures of bills and invoices
into the Tigg application software, a dedicated financial management tool used by the organization.
By meticulously organizing and categorizing each expense receipt, I ensured that all financial
transactions were accurately recorded and easily accessible for reference and analysis. This
streamlined approach not only improved the speed and accuracy of data entry but also enhanced

3. Chapter 3
3.1 Conclusions
My internship as an accountant at Airlift Technology has been an enriching journey that has
equipped me with practical insights into the world of finance and accounting. Throughout my
tenure, I gained a comprehensive understanding of financial operations within a dynamic and
innovative tech company. From handling daily transactions to preparing financial reports and
collaborating with cross-functional teams, this experience has allowed me to apply theoretical
knowledge in a real-world setting. I have honed skills in data analysis, financial management, and
communication, which are essential for a successful career in the financial sector. Moreover,
interacting with seasoned professionals and working alongside a dedicated team has provided me
with a supportive learning environment and a glimpse into the intricacies of a tech-driven business
landscape. This internship has not only enhanced my technical competencies but has also fostered
personal growth, adaptability, and a deeper appreciation for the role of finance in organizational
success. As I transition from intern to a future finance professional, I am grateful for the
opportunities Airlift Technology provided me and am confident that the lessons learned here will
serve as a strong foundation for my future endeavors in the financial world.
3.2 Recommendations
More opportunities for students to intern in their organization must be established. The intern
would also recommend the organization to continue giving internship placements to as many
students as they can because some miss this experience which is also important requirement of the
university due to the fact that they failed to get placements.
Continuous supervision of students, the intern recommends the university to carry out the continual
supervision and monitoring of the students during the internships training so as to encourage them
to perform the duties fully and accurately. This will also put a close link between the academic
supervisors so as to foster appropriate assessment of what the interns are doing in the field or what
they have been facing during placement.
The company has a policy of 6 months internship. It must be made in 3 months as the increment
or promotion of the interns after 3 months encourages them to learn more and in an efficient

13
SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

manner. If the internship period is 6 months, they will have to wait for 6 months to complete the
internship first and will take time to be eligible to be an employee in the same or different
organization and will create a waste of time. So, the company must reconsider the policy of 6
months internship period.
