This port was originally based on NetHack 3.4.3, and hasn't been touched in years
and years. But with the DevTeam picking up steam again, I figured I'd go back and
revive this old thing and update it to 3.6.1.

To make maintaining this thing a little easier, I've rebuilt the codebase on a new fork
of the DevTeam tree, and stripped out most of the weird customizations and so
forth. The result is a pretty clean port that includes support for status hilights
(though not yet the hitpoint bar).

If I get bored I can see updating this to take better advantage of the new status
viewport and so forth. Plus, there's all the testing I haven't done. But... it seems to
basically work!

LOL, yeah, I'll be the first to admit this falls firmly into the category of
"intellectual exercise", but it was a fun little excursion!

I will note, though, that I've been told the game works perfectly well on a 3DS in
DS mode... ;)

Oh, wow. I've had an NDS port of SporkHack for quite a long time that worked pretty
well, and was actually my first exposure to NetHack in general (the NDS homebrew
scene is awesome).

I'll definitely give this a shot.

That might have been the port I did! Many years ago I produced alpha versions
of both SlashEm and SporkHack for the DS based on the 3.4.3 codebase. If
that's the one, you'll probably find this port quite familiar.

I got a chance to play this today. Looks good so far!

Three questions:

1. Is there an option for tiles?

2. The 3.43 uses left shoulder for commands and right shoulder for inventory, if
we could add that as an option I would appreciate it.

Also this version and the older 3.43 version look for a \Nethack directory based in
the root of the SD card. I would like to have both the old 3.43 version and this one
available on the same SD.
2) Could you make this one either work inside a subdirectory or make it look for
\Nethack361 or something like that?

Thanks!

The default configuration uses a graphical tileset! The port has a number of
restrictions on the size and format of the tiles, but it's quite customizable (and
also allows for playing in text mode using a BDF font of your choice)

Key bindings *should* be the same between 3.6.1 and 3.4.3, both in terms of
the defaults and the features to configure them. Heck, it's possible you can just
copy over the keymapping data file (keys.cnf).

Having 3.6.1 read from a different directory is a very good idea, though! I'll add
that as a request to the project on github. I can't say if or when I'll get to it, but
clearly I'm bored and looking for something to do, so it's possible!

It's sadly not working on my 3DS at the moment. I keep getting black screens.
