That's one of the reasons my wife and I moved to a

rural area, 20 mins out from a small city it has
everything you need. it's no New York or a Raleigh

I ran into this when I had water damage in my $600
 apartment it 2018. They fixed the pipe but refused to
fix the ceiling. After a month of fighting, I just said f it
 and did it myself. Spackle and paint are cheap. Think it
was less than 50 bucks. Stayed there another Two
 years and just did the small repairs. Easier than
 dealing with shitty maintenance.

Talk to your landlord about asbestos! Usually plaster in

old buildings contains asbestos, at either layer. Having
poor condition asbestos plaster in your apartment is
terrible. Your landlord should have an annual asbestos

I know it's not ideal, but you could easily sand and
 patch those holes with some plaster for probably less
than 20 bucks. Then, I'd attack the stains in the tub
with some CLR and a scouring stick. I'd strip some
paint off of the finishing trim for the handles and
repaint or refinish them. I'd take steel wool or a
polishing cloth to the spout to give it a polished or
brushed look.
The thing I found about moving into a shitty house or

apartment is that a little TLC can make it more
enjoyable to live in. Don't wait for your slumlord to do
it, they'll do the bare minimum if they do it at all.
Drywall or plaster holes are easily patched. Paint can
be pricey, so try to find the area in the paint

you can patch that hole. If your bathroom is not
flooded with roaches at night, you got a deal. It you
have electricity, that's a deal. If there is not water
leaking in from above you while you sit on the toilet,
that's a deal. I lived on the East Coast in Phila, NYC and
Boston with all these problems.

My sister pays $1900 for half of an apartment like this

in Boulder Colorado. The tiles are broken and there's a
hole in the wall of the shower with plastic lunch bags

create a kitchen counter with resin and pieces of a

your money, don’t answer the phone. They will evict

rent. They’re never in the office either. These are the

reviews I read. If they break their lease it goes on their

rent to them. No one cares.

Pick your battles. Suck it up. Be a little self sufficient
TOPICS and you’ll feel a lot better. Last place I left did a walk
through and it was hilarious. New window screens
 (none when I moved in) new bathroom fixtures and
towel racks (gotta be low flow! Haha) Landlady wanted

to keep the window fixtures/blinds (no chance I put
 those in!) The little things you do to make a place
liveable, will all be worth it. You live in it, make it your
 own,(obviously to a certain extent) however long you’ll
be there, you’ll at least feel comfortable and proud.
 Whatever your situation is, you can always afford to do
something to make it more “liveable”. I remember

initially waiting forever for the landlord to fix stuff, did
 it myself (I’m no expert at home repairs) but I found
most stuff was easy and inexpensive to fix yourself.
Take your time, google it, YouTube whatever. It can be
done.

I'll never understand working your ass off to live in a

 high priced, shitty apartment in an overcrowded city. I
live an hour from Nashville and 2 from Memphis and

have a big house with acres and acres.of open space, a
 great job, low taxes and can go into the city anytime I
want to go to concerts or shopping without having to
live near the crime and crazy traffic. All that for a
quarter of the price of living in a crappy apartment. I'll
never understand but each to his own.

Gotta love the housing shortage!


Because of, essentially, ridiculous Zoning Laws, you
 can pretty much guarantee paying an arm and a leg in
rent for even the worst quality housing in a lot of
 places...
 And the landlords paid an arm and a leg to buy the
 building in the first place, due to inflated property
costs caused by the housing shortage caused by the
 Zoning Laws...
 Of course, they at least benefit from rents and

property values continuing to rise and rise as the
housing crisis just gets worse.
