It's areas that are underneath powerlines. They take out the vegetation so that in the event of a
line fall, the sparks don't have anything to set on fire.
It's dashed, because very close to the towers themselves, the altitude/elevation of the power
lines means that if a cable snaps, it cannot fall onto the ground at a point closer to the tower
than the height of the cable, so they can leave that area productive.
There are also some areas along those routes that don't have the dots/dashes - I can only
assume that this is areas where the crops are either unlikely to burn (vineyards, maybe, they're
not flammable compared with citrus trees etc.) or where the power company has yet to come to
an agreement with the landowner about compensation for the loss in crop productivity.

Thats terrifying.
I think I started to vaguely guess this before reading the comments, neat

That's a hell of a lot put to chance, that the power lines will fall directly down and lay on the
right part of ground.

I mean, they'll fall in a really predictable way. Lines don't have a ton of surface area to
catch wind, they're also under a decent amount of tension (mostly from their own
weight), which will send them in a predictable direction. If they were to break and fall they
are going to go more or less straight down. The cleared patches are also decently wide,
just hard to notice from such a high perspective.

It’s all calculated. How much sag on a record minimum and maximum day, design
wind speed. This is engineering folks.

Ya know why they call it the lone star state? It’s based on the Yelp reviews.

Prima Nocta First Night! If we can’t get them out; we breed them out.

stay on the Texas side afterwards!

Am from Texas as well. Why don’t we just take Texas, and PUSH it somewhere
else? Maybe California will pick a different state to move too.

I've said we should detach Texas, attach giant outboard motors and ram it
into France.

The problem with doing to Texas what Bugs did to Florida is even if you make
the cut, the state won't move. Why? Because of how much Oklahoma sucks.

you went a long way for that one, but it was worth it in the end

Idk we could just cut it off and get in our boats and all just push it somewhere
else

How do you think those dashed lines got on the map to begin with?
If you keep following it, you eventually arrive at some big-ass scissors.
I’m guessing high voltage power lines with white wraps on them so low flying pilots don’t hit
them. If you EHANCE it you can see the small dots that are probably the towers for the wires.
I think you almost nailed it, I found the area on google maps. You can see for yourself; just
west of a town called Williams.
It appears to be, to me, the ground cover (crops or whatever) is clear cut along the power
lines… why in that pattern? No clue

It looks to be PG&E 500KV (source) over an orchard. PG&E has unique requirements for
clearances around transmission lines after being sued for causing wildfires (source II).

This. The trees are cleared around the base of the towers, giving the short "dash." The
lines sag, requiring clearing of the trees once it's far enough from the tower; this looks
like the long dash. The remaining trees are in between those cleared areas.
Fuck PG&E
Street View where the dotted line intersects a highway shows overhead transmission
lines.
I think you're right. These are orchards, so tree cover. I wonder if the trees were cut to
build the lines, and are now on a different timing than the rest of the orchard?
Check out the street view vs satellite imagery just south of East Camp Road and
Beauchamp Dr. The older street view has short trees in the gaps, but the satellite shows
clear-cut.
If you look closely you can see paces where the marks end abruptly at the edge of fields. It
seems to be on the ground.
It is on the ground.

You can clearly see the power line and no crops under them.

Your so high up you actually saw the line that is shown on the map.
Aliens
I used to love Mad Magazine. I wonder what hidden picture it will reveal?
Fly a little higher and you'd see the name of each state from above.
Op said central California. It's probably just construction for a water main or smthn
It’s the San Andreas fault it’s perforated so it’ll separate easy and slip off into the sea
What’s it called when you do a quick loose stitch of the front of the quilting to the backing just
to hold it together before you start the actual quilting stitching?
Basting :)
It might have something to do with the high speed rail construction which is starting in the
Central Valley
It's power lines, but you can actually see the path of the high speed rail line too.

From engineering, that is either the line style for an alignment or pavement markings between
two lanes in the same direction.
I have no idea what it’s doing here, but it does appear to be on purpose.
-- . -- . -- . -- .
This makes me think it's maybe high-tension power lines, and the gaps are non-reflective
insulators. It looks like it's been diverted around the plots in the middle of the picture.
Nice view
…..Midwesterner here (admittedly, Chicagoan so Midwesterner is up for debate). But this looks
like the Midwest. Just saying.
Otisburg?
