Substance abuse, specifically drug problem but only few wanted to admit it.
2. Who do you think the gatekeepers are in the community?
The gatekeepers are the leaders of the community – the authorities and the concerned citizens
in Kenzington.
3. What groups of people in the community might be most interested in solving this problem?
The groups of people in the community that has the most interest in solving this problem are
the city council of Kenzington, the health sectors, and especially the group of concerned citizens
in Kenzington. The group of concerned citizens are the ones who raised their concern to the city
council which means that they interested in solving this problem.
4. What groups might have a vested interest in seeing the problem maintain unresolved?
The groups that has no interest in solving the problem are the ones who sell and buy drugs.
They are only the one who have interest in seeing the problem maintain unresolved because
they are caught up in such problem, they are the root of the problem in the community of
Kenzington.
5. What interventions would be useful in dealing with the problem?
Interventions that would be useful in dealing with the problem are as follows:
- Jail time for people who uses drugs
- Curfew time
- Rehabilitation centers
- Roaming police officers or police visibility
- Conduct a health education program for the parents
- Therapy Programs
6. How would you evaluate your efforts to solve the problem?
I would evaluate my efforts by measuring community-level change that have occurred in solving
the problem. For example, interviewing the people in the community of Kenzington what are
the changes that they noticed regarding the youths that uses drugs and alcohols. Other than
that, I would keep track of all the proposed interventions or solutions I made if there are any
changes or progress.
7. What strategies might you recommend to make the solution lasting?
- Collaborate with the authorities especially the police officers
- Continuous health education programs about the drug problems
