Activity 1.1a
Self-awareness is very
important for all care work.
Think about your previous
experiences and the attitudes
and beliefs that you are aware Explain - to explain something you
that you hold, and explain will need to provide a clear account
how they may affect the way of your understanding, including
you work: details like why and how.
Confidentiality
I am expected to work according to the guide lines set out in the data protection act
1998, which sets out an individuals rights to confidentiality. If i breach this it is a
serious act of misconduct.
Working time
The working time directive states that an employee cannot work more than 48
hours per week averaged over 17 weeks. However you can agree to opt out of this
rule, this is very common in the care industry due to the needs of rotors etc
It is essential to work in
ways that are agreed with
your employer. Give an
example of an agreed Explain - to explain something you
way of working in your will need to provide a clear account
workplace and explain why of your understanding, including
it is important: details like why and how.
I have agreed to work by the principles set out by Team Teach which focuses on
the prevention and management of challenging, unpredictable and aggressive
behaviors of service users. By using non physical interventions with service users it
creates a "restraint as a last resort" culture.
Despite this if there are any indications of a behavior by a service user, then I should
follow the agreed ways of working set out in the service users ICMP (Individual crisis
management plan) which is always updated and available in their folder.

✔ NO

✔ NO

Part ii)
Thinking about the statements
in Part i) that would need to Explain - to explain something you
be reported, explain how you will need to provide a clear account
would raise your concerns, or of your understanding, including
whistleblow: details like why and how.
If I had a concern about a service user then I would report it to my team leader, senior
or manager. If however I could not report the incident to a team leader because they
may have been involved then I would report the incident directly to the person above
them. This could also be the home manager. But again if I could not report to the
manager then i would go to the area manager and continue through the company and
up to the directors if required.
If however I felt that in house reporting/whistle blowing was not appropriate, I could
report to OFSETD directly, the police, or the local safeguarding board. I could also
refer to my organizations whistle blowing policies and procedures.
