Lamp under a bowl

“You are the light of the world. A town

built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither
do people light a lamp and put it under a
bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and
It gives light to everyone in the house.

Lesson Learned from the Parable

• Jesus advises placing a lamp on a table or lamp stand to illuminate the space. He encourages
us to consider God and His word by telling us this story. Our hearts light up as the darkness
dispels when we hear God's words and remind us of His marvelous promises.
• Jesus is warning us not to conceal the goodness and light of His message somewhere that
others cannot see (like a lamp hidden under a bowl). We ought to let that light shine for all
to see instead.
• God wants us to internalize His Word, but He also wants us to spread it around and let His
light shine for all to see. He does not want us to conceal it! When we share His Word, it's
like we're positioning ourselves atop a lampstand so that everyone on earth can hear His
magnificent words and see the light of God.
• When we follow Jesus and reflect His light, we are driving away the darkness and sadness
in the world and bringing God to everyone around us. Jesus said, "I am the light of the
world. If you follow me, you will not have to walk in darkness because you will have the
light that leads to life."
• By educating others about God, His promises, and what the Bible says about Him, we can
help shine His light. Because we have Jesus as our best friend and are confident in our
ability to trust him, we can also reflect His light by being kind to others, joyful, and hopeful.
