Emergency Action Plan
Emergencies should be reported by calling 911

This procedure applies to all employees, contractors, and visitors in the [Company Name] Manassas office.
The following personnel have been assigned as Emergency Contacts & Plan Coordinators and are trained to
assist in the safe and orderly emergency evacuation of other employees, and in dealing with Severe Weather
emergencies:

1. Emergency Escape Procedures and Routes


 Emergency escape procedures and route assignments have been posted in each work area.
 Emergency Contact/Plan Coordinators are responsible for ensuring that critical equipment is shut down
(when safe to do so) prior to exiting the building.
 Employee Accountability Procedures after Evacuations.
o Rally points have been established for all evacuation routes and procedures. These points are
designated on each posted work area escape route.
o All work area managers, supervisors and employees must report to their designated rally points
immediately following an evacuation.
o Each employee is responsible for reporting to his or her supervisor so that an accurate head count can
be made.
o Supervisors will check off the names of all those reporting and will report those not checked off as
missing to one of the Emergency Contact/Plan Coordinators listed in this Plan.
 An Emergency Contact/Plan Coordinator will be present at the following locations:

 The Emergency Contact/Plan Coordinators will determine the method to be utilized to locate missing
personnel.

Severe Weather & Tornado Emergency Action Procedures
General Terms:
Tornado Watch - issued when severe thunderstorms and/or tornadoes are most likely to occur. Watches
usually cover large geographic areas for periods up to six hours. If a tornado watch is issued for the
Carrollton area, continue to monitor information sources. Tornado watches are issued by the National
Weather Service and relayed by local media. TV’s are located in the _____________ and could be used to
monitor local weather broadcasts. Additionally, if you have a radio in your office, listen to local weather
broadcasts to stay informed.
Tornado Warning - tornadoes are indicated by radar or trained spotters. Local authorities issue tornado
warnings, and outdoor sirens will be sounded for a tornado warning. When a tornado warning is issued take
shelter immediately.
Actions:
The following instructions should be followed if you hear a tornado warning, see a tornado approaching, or
are advised by [COMPANY NAME] Management that a tornado warning has been issued.
If indoors:
 Get away from windows and doors leading outside. One of the greatest dangers during a tornado is
flying debris.
 Immediately seek shelter in the nearest shelter areas designated on the Emergency Action Plan map.
These are places in internal rooms or areas that do not have an external wall or windows and are
identified on the map by bold blue lines around the area.
 Remain in the shelter area until the all clear has been sounded or until directed by [COMPANY NAME]
Management.
If outdoors:
 If at all possible, seek shelter in the nearest building immediately.
 If caught away from any buildings, seek shelter in the nearest ditch or low area.
 If in a vehicle, do not attempt to outrun a tornado. Stop and seek shelter in the nearest ditch or low area.

2. Earthquake Emergency Action Procedures


During An Earthquake
 If indoors, stay there. Get under a desk or table or stand in a corner.
 If outdoors, get into an open area away from trees, buildings, walls and power lines.
 If driving, pull over to the side of the road and stop. Avoid overpasses and power lines. Stay inside your
car until the shaking is over.
 If in a crowded public place, do not rush for the doors. Crouch and cover your head and neck with your
hands and arms.
After An Earthquake
 Unless there is an immediate, life-threatening emergency, do not attempt to use the telephone.
 After a quake, Emergency Contact/Plan Coordinators are to:
o Ensure that all personnel are safe and unharmed. Deal with medical emergencies immediately.
o Check for gas and water leaks, broken electrical wiring or sewage lines. If there is damage, turn
the utility off at the source and immediately report gas leaks to your utility company.
o Check for downed power lines; warn others to stay away.
o Check building for damage.
 Turn on your portable radio for instructions and news reports. For your own safety, cooperate fully with
public safety officials and follow instructions.
 Do not use your vehicle unless there is an emergency. Keep the streets clear for emergency vehicles.
 Be prepared for aftershocks. Stay calm and lend a hand to others. Follow the instructions of the
[COMPANY NAME] Emergency Contact/Plan Coordinators.
