Idle speed

Time in minutes
Start up- Turbine

• Start AOP/MOP
• Fill the OH tank
• Keep Standby pump on auto
• Keep starting device in minimum position
• Keep barring gear on
• Start condensate pump & put hotwell
controller on auto.
• Open the casing drains & line drains.
Start up- Turbine contd..
• Gradually heat up to ESV thro’ warm up
vent
• Heating rate @2-3 Deg C/ min.
• Heat the inlet line @ 70-75% of rated temp
• Start the evacuation system & seal glands
• Energise the solenoid valve
• Energise the tripping device.
• Ensure gradual opening of ESV
Start up- Turbine contd..
• Give start command to governor( auto/semi
auto)
• The speed will rise as per the programme
crossing the critical zones.
• At each speed intervals note
- Bearing Vibrations
-Bearing temperatures
-Abnormal noises if any
Start up- Turbine contd..
• Allow the speed go upto min GOV speed
• Ensure the holding down bolts are free.
• Observe the casing expansion
• Increase the speed further up to max
continuous speed in steps.
• Observe stability of the Gov
system,mechanical stability of the machine.
Bring the machine to full speed.

Check stability of Gov system and give

clearance for synchronisation.
Monitor all bearing temp, drain oil temp, brg
metal temperature, brg vibartion, hot well
level, vacuum, lube oil temp for each stage of
loading.

Compare if available with earlier data.

ALARM AND TRIP SET
POINTS
• Exhaust Pr. Low - 0.6/-0.3 atg
• Lube oil Pr.low 1.5/1.0 atg
• Control oil Pr.Low 6.5/4.5 atg
• Trip oil Pr.Low-low 2.0atg
• BRG.Temp High 100/110 deg c
• Vibration High 75/ 100 mic
• Axial Displ High 0.5/0.7 mm
Shut Down procedure
Bring generator o/p Minimum and open breaker.

Take normal shut down in WWG

Put Machine on barring

open all turbine casing drains

Isolate ejector steam, main steam and gland steam

Open all drain main steam line ejector line and

gland steam line.

Maintain the hot well level

Maintain Lube oil temp to 40 deg Centigrade.

Run CEP for 2 hrs If Condensate is used as

Cooling water for ejector. If not stop immediately. But
condenser level should go up.

Ensure main steam line @ 80 deg centigrade and stop

barring.
