5 Description of sound production • Air from lung go through the trachea
• Then the air passes the larynx with vibration
which caused the sound produced classified as
voiced sound
• To produce the /j/ sound, the tip of the tongue is
set down just behind the lower teeth while the
middle area of the tongue is raised up to the middle
of the mouth roof (hard palate). Meanwhile the
back of the tongue is lowered.
• However, middle of tongue does not completely
come in contact with the roof of the mouth,
creating a narrow passageway to allow the air to
flow out through the centre of the mouth
• Meanwhile, sides of the tongue touch the roof of
the mouth completely wholly obstructing air flow
on both sides

3 Description of sounds • To produce the sound, put the tongue low and at the back
production of the mouth.
• Slightly push lips together to make a round shape.
• The mouth is also open when producing the /ɒ/ sound.
• Air is pushed upward from the lungs through the vocal
tract.
• The vocal folds in the larynx vibrate so the sound produced
as a voiced sound.
