A FIT FOR THE AGES

SILBON CLÁSICO
If you think the Windsor knot and
the rebelliousness of the American
1970s are seriously underrated then
silbon clásico is for you. In a matter
twelve months, two young men from
the southern andalusian province of
Córdoba have managed to capture and
redefine what they believe has been
lost in the bustle of every day life: the
art of dressing well.
In the southern capitals of Spain, a distinct sense of fashion has
always been present among young, urban men and their older
counterparts. In past decades, this classic combination of well-
tailored suits and hats, capes and canes, melded with the influence
of the English flair, was simply the norm for the upper echelons
of society, a reflection of confidence, an unspoken attitude that
seemed effortless.

In the search for comfort and convenience, suits have been

traded in for jeans, dress shirts for T-shirts, particularly among
the younger generations. Nonetheless, the curiosity for these
past years of sophistication have brought together Rafael Díaz
and Pablo López, two young men with respective professional
music and business backgrounds, in an effort to create a style that
is timeless, but simultaneously distinct, fresh and personalized.

The brand, Silbon Clásico, is surprisingly named after the

widgeon, an animal the two men discovered on a trip to the zoo.

“The widgeon is a type of duck that is naturally migratory, with

animated colors and a svelte shape – the perfect image of the
Silbon man that we want to convey to our clients: dynamic,
traveling, curious, and of course, always elegant,” says Díaz.

Working from their couture Córdoba showroom by

appointment only, Silbon Clásico presents their spring/summer
collection with 200 blazers along with bowties, ties, shirts and
loafers to match. Only one article per size is produced for every
model, lending that extra touch of exclusivity demanded by
their growing list of clients.

Original to say the least, the Silbon style counts on Scottish

plaids, collegiate sweaters, made-to-measure fits, and their
signature look: the bowtie. Keeping things purely Spanish, the
creators of Silbon have looked internally for the production of
each article: blazers in Granada, patterns from Salamanca and
ties in Lleida.

“All of the production is 100% national. We look for excellence

DOM PÉRIGNON ROSÉ ENOTHEQUE

DEFIES THE
DECADES
Richard Geoffrey, custodian of the
legendary Dom Pérignon cellar, has
reached into the coveted vault to retrieve
a bottle of champagne that has created
a buzz in the wine community. His choice:
Dom Pérignon Rosé Oenothèque 1990, a
dazzling wine like no other, with a complex
and assured sensuality that combines
the unprecedented aging potential and
complexity of the Rosé and the long life
of Œnotheque. The champagne is the first
Rosé to be retrieved from the Oenotheque
and after 20 years, the result was well
worth the wait.

In Dom Pérignon Rosé Oenotheque there is a magnified Dom

Pérignon style – complex, intense, vibrant, tactile, sensual – and
a evolution of the Rosé, an even sharper and edgier paradox. It
is time travel to where “everything is beauty, luxury, calm and
voluptuousness.”

As the keeper of Dom Pérignon’s history and style, Richard Geoffroy

watches over a few samples of each vintage in his Oenotheque, the
Chef de Cave’s wine cellar. In the Oenothèque, the wine continues
to mature for years and even decades and is reborn with each
metamorphosis of time. This wine displays Dom Pérignon impressive
aging potential, a trait the brand is unanmiously recognized for.
As Geoffroy puts it, “Dom Pérignon Oenothèque is the ultimate
expression of a wine whose style defies time”.

IN 2006, DOM PÉRIGNON GENEOLOGIST, RICHARD GEOFFROY SET

HIMSELF A NEW CHALLENGE: TO REVEAL EACH VINTAGE´S VARIOUS
FACETS IN A DIFFERENT WAY. GOING BEYOND THE USUAL FOOD AND
WINE PAIRINGS, GEOFFREY OFFERS A UNIQUE WAY TO EXPERIENCE
THE WINE BASED ON SEVEN NEW COMBINATIONS. THESE GUSTATORY
AND SENSORIAL CORRESPONDENCES REVEAL THE WINE AS NEVER
BEFORE: “I WANTED TO SET THE STAGE FOR THE FLAVORS,” HE SAYS,
AND HELP CREATE, “A CEREMONY OF THE SENSES.”.

The Dom Pérignon brand is a paradox to the point of contradiction,

and the Dom Pérignon Rosé Oenotheque seems to be the epitome
of this personality: rosé yet amber in color; a glorious and intriguing
expression of Pinot Noir that goes beyond the commitment of the
perfect blend. This warm and complex wine comes from a unique
harvest, a year that was plagued by early spring frost followed by a
scorching summer that was quelled by rain that arrived just days
before the harvest on September 11, 1990. The result delivered the
trademark precision and power of Dom Pérignon wines with a
warm opulence that showcases a metamorphosis of a classic Rosé.
On the nose, the bouquet is complex and warm, with an exotic
combination of papaya, crystallized orange, curry leaves and sweet
spices, rounded off with marine and roasted notes. On the palate,
the wine is revealed to be both weighty and crisp, offering first
impressions of a wine that is full, warm, solid and rounded all at
once. Each sip offers a carnal emotion, the wine expresses itself
with languor and holds the note magnificently. In 2007, the Rosé
was disgorged, leaving time for the color to evolve into a beautiful
coppery-pink, with glints of coral. The complex layering of flavours
accompanied by the gentle prick of bubbles makes the wine seem
more like a gently evolving Pinot Noir than a Champagne. Dom
Pérignon Rosé Oenothèque remains true to its founding ambition
by pushing back Dom Pérignon’s creative frontiers even further.

Geoffroy’s commitment tot he Oenotheque program, which

began with the 1990 Vintage, involves ongoing personal research
on each vintage. The effect of time on the bottled wine retains its
share of mystery and surprise even for him. The wines pulled from
the OEthoneque must truly stand up to the merciless test of time,
a quality that Dom Pérignon has been become known for. Dom
Pérignon Rosé Oethnoque has harnessed the opus of the wine’s
original vision and allowed for time to reveal its true essence.

GLOBALPR.NET
MEETING THE CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL MARKETING
IN THE 21ST CENTURY
He who can, does: when confronted with the challenge of how to market a suite of luxury
brands globally, one entrepreneur thought a little bigger than his own portfolio. Recognizing
the need for effective online representation balanced with the need to carefully control
and measure the result, globalpr.net was born – a dynamic and sophisticated web-based PR
platform which provides an elegant and cost-effective solution to the promotional needs of
businesses & individuals of all types around the world.

Email and the internet have certainly made life easier, but the ever-greater evidence of value for PR and the functional responsibilities
relatively newfound ability to instantly share information has led to of PR, Communications and Marketing Departments expanding, the
an expectation of and demand for immediacy, both of response & requirements of excelling in the profession must sometimes seem
data. Most business people will have had the experience of feeling overwhelming. Branding must be maintained, everything produced
rushed into replying to an email and being unhappy with the quality has to look effortlessly professional, the material and data available
of an ill-considered, half-digested result. In the words of Henry David must be accurate, standardized, up-to-date (and in multiple places),
Thoreau, “Men have become tools of their tools”. and multiple demands for information must be satisfied at the same
time.
The fact that we exist in a global society, with its attendant 24/7
demands from around the world, means that information now has to Magnified though these demands are for those working exclusively

45
key-2 luxury globalpr.net

We are continuously told that the ‘old ways’ of doing PR are over, and certainly no company will achieve REFLECTING YOUR IMAG
much by sending press releases to an unchanging list of journalists. Nevertheless, there are truths on both
sides of the relationship which hold good. Journalists and researchers still need to find information and
context with which to colour their story, often in a limited space of time. Brands and individuals still need
to manage their reputation, and to present and explain their brand and its key differentiators to journalists
and the public.

The internet clearly seems to be the most efficient method for a brand or individual to
disseminate information, gain profile and interact with the media and the public at a
reasonable cost & with measurable results. However, achieving all this effectively whilst
preserving brand equity can be a great deal more complicated than it sounds. Many
businesses have begun to use Facebook and other social media sites, but for those
intent on communicating credibility, companies with aspirations, and luxury
or blue chip brands in particular, this can feel inappropriately casual in style.
These types of brands gain enduring success by virtue of longevity, quality
and status. Nobody wants their brand to be belittled by an unworthy
association or placement, and the spectre of any loss of control of the
brand message is too worrying for many companies to contemplate.

“GETTING INFORMATION OFF THE INTERNET IS

LIKE TAKING A DRINK FROM A FIRE HYDRANT”
MITCHELL KAPOR

There is an overload of information on the web. The human mind

loves distraction and the internet facilitates that. Brands compete
globally. So how best does one focus (& keep) the glow of the
world’s attention on one’s brand?

David Johnstone, the founder of globalpr.net, holds several luxury

brands under his Free Holdings umbrella, one of which is The Global
Party. This event, scheduled for September 2011, involves 80 parties
around the world within 24 hours. “The problem of how to promote
such an ambitious event globally, how to link the venues with each other,
how to present the sponsors, the charity and the key players in the right
way and ensure that the world’s press could rapidly and easily find the correct
and latest information from all these groups was quite a major one. We knew it
also had to be done in such a way so as to ensure that everyone involved had their
information security needs satisfied, their status preserved and augmented and that
the PR benefit of their involvement was clear.

“The idea behind globalpr.net is that it takes into account all the needs which companies
& individuals have. Although The Global Party is an exceptionally complex event, the needs are
much the same for a brand with a much smaller scope. The need to maintain brand lustre for example
– globalpr.net is an elegant backdrop for any brand, where you connect only with those other brands &
individuals you choose. We were adamant that there should be no banner advertising to taint or cheapen
the experience. The need to present a unified brand image - there are little details which are really important;
for example the ability to change the backdrop and colour of a page, so that it fits with the look and feel of your
brand. The need to manage information simply & easily - existing websites often have limited (if any) ability

46
globalpr.net key-2 luxury

GE AROUND THE WORLD for the owner to manage their own content, and in cases where the facility does exist, quality of visual
presentation can suffer. We wanted something more dynamic, more responsive to the needs of journalists,
researchers and the public. And we wanted something with minimal cost – to make it an easy choice as an
obvious place to spend some of your marketing budget.

“In short, we wanted somewhere where we could place information, press releases, past press, high-resolution
multi-media collateral and contacts in a dynamic, structured, professional and elegant way and on a
highly visible public platform; a 360° profile which we could link to our website, where we
could retain control and where we could show clearly the associations that our brands have.
Showing your network is such a great way to get a brand to a wider audience, and really
interesting for journalists to be able to cross-reference so simply and in such depth. I’m
pleased to say that the platform really does satisfy all these needs and I believe that,
with globalpr.net, we’ve achieved that balance of agility and control.

“It’s specifically designed to be sensitive to Google’s search mechanisms –

no matter how fantastic a company’s website may be, it doesn’t guarantee
focus. You need to be found. And unlike social networking sites, which
admittedly have huge constituencies, with globalpr.net there isn’t the
same lack of control. Social media tends to mean that you have to take
the rough with the smooth in terms of public feedback!” But could
Twitter or other social media be future additions? “Yes, globalpr.net
is intended to be a broad church, and we will shortly have Twitter
available as an option for those who want.

“We also value it for internal communications purposes, although in

truth, we hadn’t considered that area during the planning stage. Even
with a small team, in a fast-paced environment it can be difficult to
keep everyone abreast of all the latest developments, especially when
you have an expanded network of consultants and partners dotted
around the world as we do.”

Interesting too is the mix of types of clients the site has. They span
industries, countries and include events, like The Global Party, and
individuals, like David Johnstone’s co-director in globalpr.net, Stanley
Fink. “It’s ideal for individuals who have a public profile”, says Johnstone.
“At its simplest, it reduces the likelihood of being misquoted (the bête noire
of most people), but it also enables an individual to link to areas of involvement
outside of those for which perhaps they are best known – charitable and new
business interests for example. It’s a simple and immediately understandable way of
providing the context, the colour that makes a story interesting.”

It is rare to come across a tech launch which seems to instantly offer so much to so many
groups, and globalpr.net’s strength lies in its comprehensive presentation. There are already
top-end brands using the site, courtesy of Johnstone’s existing relationships through his company
Key-2 Luxury. In an increasingly globalized world, the ability the web offers to deliver responsive global
PR is the future. But companies, charities, events and individuals alike need to be able to retain control
of their brands. As budgets are restricted, it’s even more important for brands to maintain and increase
their visibility, but in a controlled environment, at a reasonable price and where the focus is measurable.
globalpr.net appears to have jumped well ahead of the curve.

Even perfection can be improved. Proof of this is the latest edition of the Lamborghini

The most radical model in the Gallardo range is truly captivating. With a weight-

predecessor and takes its rightful place as king of track and road.
The stunning Verde Ithaca colour serves to emphasise even more the details of the wing mirrors, rear spoiler, the diffuser and the carbon fibre air intakes at the front, together with its incredible

weight-to-power ratio down from 2.5 to 2.35 kg/CV.

BREGUET CREATED THE FIRST WRISTWATCH FOR A QUEEN

To consider the history of breguet from a purely masculine standpoint would miss a major aspect
of things, namely that prominent women have for two centuries now regularly chosen to own
and wear Breguet timepieces. Among them Marie-antoinette, queen of france, the marquise de
condorcet, empress Josephine and caroline murat, queen of naples – all found the charm of a
breguet irresistible. To cater to its feminine clientele, the company has long masterfully combined
the watchmaker’s art with that of the gem jeweller’s.

Breguet’s new collection, reine of naples, is inspired by an early bracelet watch a.-louis breguet
created for bonaparte’s sister caroline, queen of naples.

MARINE ROYAL COLLECTION

The Marine collection from Breguet is inspired by the watches created by Breguet for the
French Royal Marine Corps (Breguet became their official watchmaker in 1815). These
watches that display a famous, robust design are synonymous with confidence during
many decades. In 2004, Breguet introduced a new interpretation of the collection with a
delicately more modern and sporty Aesthetic, but always retaining that special elegance.

LOS AÑOS 2002 AL 2005
La conjunción de una serie de acontecimientos y sus consiguientes efectos tales como

Lluís Rizzo was born in the neighbourhood of Sants in Barcelona, on August

paternal grandparents. When he was seven, his obsession for drawing the

During this time he held exhibitions in Bergues and Barcelona, although his
first international exhibition was not until 1999 when he showed in Dallas. Luis
exhibited once again in Barcelona, in Manresa, and for three years in Brussels.
However, his happiness was cut short by the premature death of his wife.

Faced by emotional turmoil, Luis had no choice but to channel all his
energy to paint more than ever, and with all the passion that he had inside
him, he experimented tirelessly: He tried new textures, he searched for three
dimensionality and, after two years of experimenting, he found the ideal
technique with which to combine everything that he had learned: inks, oils,
pastels, charcoal, watercolours and acrylic textures. He worked with paintbrushes,
airbrushes, palette knives, coloured pencils, different types of paint rollers or
rubbers, a cutter, a toothbrush – anything would do. At present he is working
with Sammer Gallery in Puerto Banús, Marbella. His dream, at the moment, is
to depict his other great love, music. His big project is to capture the feelings
that the great classical music works evoke in him, from Bach (his first work in
the series – Prelude – which was inspired by Suite number 1 for cello and which
is exhibited in the gallery) to Stravinsky, and of course Beethoven. The latter is
the person who has influenced Luis most since his childhood; no one has ever
surpassed themselves like Beethoven: you only have to listen to his last piano
concerto, the Emperor, his last sonata, the 32nd – his last symphony – the Ninth
– or the greatest creative piece ever written, The String Quartet Opus 135 that
he composed just before his death.

around the time when the custom of bathing became
popular. It was King George III (1738 - 1820) who greatly
encouraged this activity, frequently visiting Weymouth

bathing of a woman was in 1822. The French Duchess

ANGELINA
JOLIE
One-of-a-kind
When writing about Angelina Jolie, there are many routes one can take. The sultry
actress whose sexuality explodes onto the screen, the once single mother of a
multi-cultural family, the ‘home-wrecker’ who managed to snag one the world´s

PreFab
Editorial: TASCHEN
A Prefab is a mass produced house, constructed in a factory and assembled on site in a few
days or weeks. Once regarded as a cheap, easy solution for urgent housing problems, the
prefab has evolved to become a synonym for ambitious design and sophisticated detailing
solutions. The amazing history of prefabricated houses started in England in the 1830’s
with a building kit for emigrants moving to Australia. Even today, prefabricated houses
provide a high percentage of living spaces in many countries of the world. This book
covers prefabs from the USA via Europe to Asia and Africa, giving insight into the various
industrially prefabricated components, the difficulties of delivery to the building site, and the
intricacies of assembly and completion. As well as tracing the liaison between modernism
and industrialization that evolved to produce the latest prefabricated solutions, it also
features a unique compilation of one-off prefabricated houses by well known international
architects, as well as successful dwellings manufactured off-site for everyday modern living.

“Ice Cream” is a global survey of recent developments in
contemporary art with an emphasis on emerging artists. Each
of the ten selected curators is known for his or her integrity and
expertise in staging presentations of new art on an international
level. Each curator selects 10 important new artists who have
either emerged internationally over roughly the past five years, or
are still relatively unknown. No limitations as to age, geography, or
media to be imposed. To have emerged means to have had a few
solo shows, but nothing major, to have perhaps been reviewed in
the major international art press, but no major monographic book,
to have been given sufficient exposure without yet becoming fully
established. Each curator also selects a Source Artist, namely any
artist from any previous generation whom they feel remains of key
significance either to contemporary art at large or to his or her
own thinking. The idea is to contextualize today’s practice.
