Graph
MOST ESSENTIAL
LEARNING COMPETENCIES
Uses appropriate graphs to
represent organized data: Pie
Chart, Bar Graph, Line Graph,
Histogram and Ogive.
OBJECTIVES 01 Students will be able to collect,
record, and interpret data.

02 Students will learn to construct

bar and line graphs, pie chart,
histogram and ogive for data
they collect.

❖ A pie chart is a circular diagram that

shows proportion of each category.
❖ Each proportion is usually labeled by
either percent or a fraction.
❖ It shows the division of a whole into its
parts.
❖ The slices in a pie chart are known as
sectors.
Construct a pie chart using the EXAMPLE
data on students’ preferred
interest clubs.

A line graph is most suitable when LINE
we want to show the rising and falling GRAPH
trend of a set of data over a period of
time.
It is an illustration that shows the
association between independent
variable (horizontal axis) and the
dependent variable (vertical axis)
EXAMPLE:
6 AM 9 AM 12 PM 3 PM 6 PM 9 PM 12 AM 3 AM

13℃ 16℃ 20℃ 19℃ 16℃ 15℃ 12℃ 11℃

Solution:
20
a. When was the warmest time of 18
the day? 12 PM
16

Temperature (℃)
b. When was it coolest? 3 AM 14

12
c. Discuss the temperature trend 10

during the day. 8

From 6 AM to 12 PM, the temp. rose from 13℃ 6
to 20℃. From 12 PM to 3 AM, the temp. kept
falling from 20℃ to 11℃ Time of Day
BAR GRAPH - Uses bars of different
lengths and of equal widths
to show the frequencies for
each of several categories.
- Comparison among
frequencies can be easily
done by looking at the
respective heights of the
bars.
EXAMPLE:

The principal of a school needs to know what interest Solution:

clubs to offer. She asks Daniel, the student counsil
president, to conduct a survey. Here is the result of 45
survey: 42
Drama – 45 Culinary – 18
39
Dance – 24 Art – 21
Glee – 36 36

33
a. How many more students
chose drama than art? 24 30

b. Which interest club had 27

the least takers? CULINARY 24

c. How many students were 21
surveyed in all? 144 18

Drama Dance Glee Culinary Art

HISTOGRAM
A histogram is a graphical
representation that organizes a
group of data points into user-
specified ranges. Similar in
appearance to a bar graph, the
histogram condenses a data
series into an easily interpreted
visual by taking many data
points and grouping them into
logical ranges or bins.
An ogive (oh-jive),
ogive sometimes called a
cumulative frequency
polygon, is a type of
frequency polygon that
shows cumulative
frequencies. In other
words, the cumulative
percents are added on the
graph from left to right.
ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:
1. What kind of graph is most
suitable to use if we want to show
the rising and falling trend of a set
of data over a period of time.
a. PIE GRAPH c.LINE GRAPH
b. BAR GRAPH d. HISTOGRAM
ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:

2. It uses bars of different lengths and of

equal widths to show the frequencies for
each of several categories, what graph is it?

a. PIE GRAPH c. LINE GRAPH

whole into its parts.

a. PIE GRAPH c. LINE GRAPH
