Directions: Give and explain what elements and principles of arts are present in the
given Philippine Festivals.
1 Pahiyas- is a traditional celebration in Lucban as thanksgiving for a bountiful
harvest. Decorations called “Kiping”, leaf-shaped and multi-colored rice paste
wafers which are used to decorate the facades of the homes along with the fruits
and flowers from nature.

2 Pintados - is a cultural-religious celebration in Tacloban based on the body-


painting traditions of the ancient tattooed "pintados" warriors.

3 Dinagyang - is a Hiligaynon word taken from dagyang meaning “merrymaking” It


celebrates the feast of the Infant Jesus and the pact between the Datus and the
locals.

4 Masskara - This annual festival, which is similar to Brazil’s Rio Carnival, literally
translates to “many faces,” and is celebrated every October in Bacolod. Because
of the smiling faces of the mask, Bacolod City got the nickname of The City of
Smiles.

Explain in 3 to 5 sentences.
1. Chinese New Year Festival – This is the longest festival in China known as
Spring Festival. It is celebrated with family, fireworks, and festivities as the
start of a new year. This marks the end of winter and the beginning of the
spring season. This is the most important holiday in China which is celebrated
worldwide.

2. Balinese Dance festival of Indonesia - this is an ancient dance tradition that is


part of the religious and artistic expression among the Bali people in
Indonesia. The dance is dynamic and intensely expressive. Balinese dancers
express the stories of dance-drama through the bodily gestures including
gestures of fingers, hands, head and eyes.

3. Peking Opera of China - this is a performance art incorporating singing,


reciting, acting, martial arts. Peking opera is sung and recited using primarily
Beijing dialect, and composed according to a strict set of rules that prize form
and rhyme. They tell stories of history, politics, society and daily life and
aspire to inform as they entertain.
4. Kabuki Theater of Japan - this is a traditional popular drama with singing and
dancing performed in a highly stylized manner. It includes music, dance,
mime, and spectacular staging and costuming. As an art-form, kabuki also
provided inventive new forms of entertainment, featuring new musical styles,
clothes and fashion often dramatic in appearance, famous actors and stories
often intended to mirror current events.
