RE: Motivational Letter for applying “Kodaikanal Winter School on Solar Physics” by Indian Institute of
Astrophysics dated on 23 – 28 January 2023.

Having completed my graduation with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Physics from
Thiruvalluvar Arts College, Periyar University in May 2021, I am Currently Pursuing my Masters
in Periyar University, Salem. I have since been looking forward to be a part of an extensive
research based academic programme to pursue and propel my interest in Cosmology and
Astrophysics. I hereby extend my application to show my firm interest for the Kodaikanal Winter
School on Solar Physics at Kodaikanal, throughout my span of under graduate education, I have
exhibited a substantial level of co-curricular and academic performance through engaging myself
in pursuits that involved both learning and teaching. It involved independent research, and to
develop a coherence of ideas and thoughts that lead to a scientific insight. One of the reasons I am
looking forward to be part of this programme is due to the variety of modules/projects that deeply
interest me and whose equivalents are not currently available at my home university. Also,
performing research in such an excellent research environment will enhance my potential and
expand my skills.

In addition, I believe that the structure of the winter school will help me with my most profound
and fundamental question regarding my future. I believe it will help me resolve my inner dilemma
on whether I should study Quantum Information and the underlying phenomena that govern the
axioms of the Quantum Mechanics or whether I should focus on the Standard Model and the
theories beyond. I have been torn between these two, not fundamentally separate but diverging
paths for quite some time and I believe that seeing the topics in direct contrast in the workshops
of your school will provide me with the information necessary to finally make a decision. During
my studies at my University, I have been introduced and trained on a variety of subjects including
Electromagnetism, Special Relativity, Complex Analysis. Thus, I firmly believe that I will be able
to cope with the requirements of the winter school.

I believe the nature of my work here and throughout my degree course has prepared me for this
internship a fit for this position based on my research interests and relevant work, my potential to
thrive under testing circumstances and the ability to think critically.
