STATE OF MODIFICATIONS
This specification concerns only the off-base cooling system. The GT and Generator base mounted
equipment is described on specific documents.
GT and Generator are cooled in parallel on a common water circulating closed loop.
2.1 Constitution
the fin fan coolers group. It consists of 4 modules installed in parallel water and air side
the pumps skid. It is made up of 2 pumps of 100 % capacity each. It ensures the water circulation
in the complete water loop.
the atmospheric expansion tank, It ensures the minimal pressure in the circuit.
The linking pipes, instrumentation and valves.
Each module is made up of a supporting frame, one heat exchanger, one plenum and four fans.

Fan motor groups
Regulation block
Composed of two fan motors of each module, the regulation block is in operation if the following
conditions are met :
The regulation block is out of operation if the following conditions are met :
- {Cooling water pump not in operation}
OR
- {normal oil temperature}
AND
- {fin fan cooler water outlet temperature lower than 43°C}
AND
- {Generator stator temperature lower than 90°C}
IMPORTANT:
For all fans block the minimal working time is 30 minutes to prevent frequent motors start and stop.
Motors can be manually controlled from their feeders using a STOP/AUTO/MANU switch for the
commissioning and the maintenance.
{ flame detection }
. OR
{ oil temperature tank higher than 74°C }
OR
{ oil pump } AND { oil temperature collector header higher than 45 °C }
{ no flame detection }
AND
{stop of oil pump }
AND
{ oil temperature collector header lower than 45 °C }
AND
{ oil temperature tank lower than 74°C }
If the pump discharge pressure is lower than 2.5 bar or if an electrical fault is detected on the principal
pump motor, the stand by pump is started. If a fault is also detected on the stand by pump, it is
stopped and there is no starting order of the principal pump.
The pressure switch at the pump discharge is inhibited during 10 seconds following the principal or
stand by pump starting.
The motor of each pump can be manually started from MCC by a STOP/AUTO/MANU switch for the
commissioning and the maintenance.
4.2 Instrumentation
pressure gauge measures the water pressure at the inlet part of the fin fan coolers
temperature indicators measures the water temperature at the inlet/ outlet part of the fin fan
coolers
thermocouple type T measures the fin fan coolers outlet temperature. There is an action if the
thermocouple measures a temperature reaching the setting points.
• pressure gauge measures the water pressure at the pump discharge pressure
• pressure switch measures the pump in service discharge pressure. This information is transmitted
to the Speedtronic.
low level switch : installed on the expansion tank. This information is processed by the
Speedtronic.
level indicator installed on the expansion tank.
Fluid failure
In case of water failure, the flow will be too low
alarm due to low pressure at the outlet of the pumps skid,
water temperature increasing following the sequence described above

6.1 Fluid and voltage requirements
400 VAC voltage for supplying fans and pump motors
230 VAC for pump motors and fan motors anti-condensation heaters
water with corrosion inhibitor for the first filling and the make up
To avoid scaling in the cooling circuit, the first filling and make-up water must be of convenient quality
(pure water ) and it must then be treated against corrosion .
WATER QUALITY
First filling and make-up water quality must be as follows:
_ suspended solids < 50 mg/ l as CaCO3
_ total dissolved salts ( TDS ) < 100 mg/ l as CaCO3
_ total hardness < 150 mg/ l as CaCO3
_ chlorides < 50 mg/ l as CaCO3
_ sulphates < 50 mg/ l as CaCO3
WATER TREATMENT
GE Energy Products –Europe standard anticorrosion system consists of a basic, nitrite based
chemical additional inhibitor to provide a global protection of the circuit.
TREATMENT AGAINST CORROSION
Product is KEMAZUR 1625 ( 20 % of the total cooling water circuit )
Once a year at least send a sample to an analytical laboratory for:
_ pH ( > 8 )
_ TAC (total alcalinity or m-alcalinity) : > 300 ppm CaCO3
_ NaNO2- content > 1 g/l
_ freezing point : < -13 °C
It's important to pay a special attention to TAC because TAC will normally decrease slowly year after
year.
If TAC <30°f (300ppm CaCO3) or/ and pH < 8 remove partially or totally the volume, feed with fresh
KEMAZUR 1625 and soft or demineralized water
