Lubricating Fluids
Modern lubricating fluids today cover an extremely wide spectrum.
They are the ”elixir” for every machine. While in the past mostly mine­
ral oils were used, today in nearly all High-Tech applications fully
synthetic lubricating fluids are in use. New production and manufactu-
ring processes, higher capacity utilisation of machines, reduced time
and personnel resources in maintenance and service have
promoted the development of more and more specialised lubricants.
The extensive lubricating fluids programme of FUCHS LUBRITECH
offers the widest choice of products for use in lifetime and total loss
lubrication. Apart from the traditional fluids based on mineral oils, there
is a full range of synthetic fluids available, e.g. for use in high and low
temperature applications, in the food industry and in areas where en-
vironmental constraints have to be addressed.

Adhesive lubricants
The brand name CEPLATTYN has a long tradition and is acknowledged
world wide. CEPLATTYN was the first sprayable adhesive lubricant
developed more than 50 years ago. Nowadays adhesive lubricants
marketed under this name are available throughout the world in a who-
le range of specially formulated products for a wide range of applica-
tions. This group of products contains both grease based lubricants,
which contain a high graphite content, and solid-free, high-viscous fluids.
The CEPLATTYN adhesive lubricants range fulfils the tough tribotechnical
conditions encountered. The CEPLATTYN range can be used in numerous
industrial applications, e.g. open-running drive units on tube mills, rotary
kilns, dryers, ore crushers, calcinators etc. In addition on slewing rings,
rack-and-pinion devices, slide rails and bolted connections. CEPLATTYN
is also used for the inner lubrication and main­tenance of wire ropes.
CEPLATTYN lubricants are suitable for the most varied operating condi-
tions and can be used with all types of application equipment. They are
free of heavy metals, chlorine and solvents. Wear is reduced through the
use of special additive packages and their excellent adhesive qualities,
thereby ensuring minimum consumption rates.
CEPLATTYN products are used:
• for the lubrication of highly loaded and/or pre-damaged
gear drive units.
• for initial lubrication and for the specialised running-in
open-running gear drives up to operational lubrication.
For this purpose the use of MULTI-PHASE-LUBRICATION (M-P-L)
is recommended which, through the use of selected
CEPLATTYN grades, offers optimum protection, particularly
during the commissioning of a new drive unit.

PASTES AND GREASE PASTES
Pastes and grease pastes are grease-type lubricants, which contain
special solid lubricants to optimise their lubrication performance.
According to their content of solid lubricants we distinguish: Greases
up to 10%, grease pastes between 10%and 40%, pastes above 40%.
The primary function of the pastes and grease pastes is in areas of
application which cannot be handled by grease or oil. For example,
at slow speeds an inadequate lubricant separation film is formed in
the contact zones of the moving parts. Metal contact and hence
higher wear occur (scuffing). This wear can be avoided or reduced
by the use of solid lubricants.
Pastes and grease pastes with reactive white solid lubricants play a
special role. Reactive solid white lubricants are various inorganic com-
pounds which are capable of forming reactive layers on the metallic
base material in tribo-contact under specific pressure and
temperature conditions.
These layers reduce friction and protect against wear, even under
extreme loads.

HMP films and Solid Film Lubricant (SFL)

HMP films are colloidal dispersions of High Molecular Polymers (HMP)
in water. They are preferably applied in dipping procedures, and after
drying create a firmly adhering, dry, touch-proof lubricating film. The
main field of application of HMP films is the coating of screws in order
to reduce the coefficient of friction and to minimise its variation.
How­ever they have also proven their value for a wide range of other
lubrication tasks. Solid Film Lubricants are lubricants which reduce fric-
tion and wear in numerous applications in tribotechnology. They form
highly efficient, well adhering, dry lubricating films. Solid film lubricants
make it possible to pre-treat and store lubricated parts ready for assem-
bly. They are characterised by extremely high resistances to pressure
and temperatures; they neither age nor resinify and at the same time
are clean to handle. FUCHS LUBRITECH’s Solid Film Lubricants (SFL)
possess outstanding lubricating and protective properties: they improve
running-in processes and protect from surface damage. At the same
time they prevent cold welding of components (e.g. with stainless steel),
assist the flow during metal forming and avoid stick-slip in the case of
slowly moving sliding pairings. Furthermore Solid Film Lubricants (SFL)
optimise the coefficient of friction and the resulting clamping forces of
