CFM56 New HPT BSI Guide

 New revision of the HPT BSI guide on Mycfmportal

available
 Memo: CFM guides available on HPC, HPT,
Combustor, and LPT

 Egyptair is recommended to use these guides to

better understand the AMM criteria meaning when
there is a doubt

AMM remains the reference for damage assessment

Borescope Equipment

 As per CFM training on SB 72-0461 in Sept 2022, CFM

studied various lenses to perform the inspection and
determined best choices lenses to perform this inspection

 Choice of lens is important to detect possible findings

 These tests were done with the Mentor Visual IQ

borescope equipment, used by CFM Training Center and
Safran On Wing Services team.

Egyptair is recommended to perform their inspections with

Inspection Tips – SB 72-0461

Examples on MSR engines
 Avoid wide angle view to inspect the blades
 For Leading Edge side (front looking AFT) inspection, perform :
 The concave side inspection in three different steps: Upper,
Mid, Lower spans
 Another views are needed to inspect the leading edge.
 For Trailing Edge side inspection (AFT looking front), perform at
least the inspection in two views (lower / upper) to detect possible
findings

Appropriate view angles are key to detect possible findings

Hand Cranking Pad

 During a BSI when the hand cranking

pad is removed, it is required to
inspect the gear shaft tangs to
ensure their proper alignment (AMM

Borescope Reporting

 Reports, pictures and media provided by Egyptair teams are

well appreciated by CFM 👌
 For MPD BSI, the media organized in folders are suitable for
reading

 Communication: is it possible for the BSI inspectors to inform

Egyptair engineering team when the report and media are
available?

 Ensure to mention in the report all findings, even findings which

are within limits

Reporting is key to report to CFM the observations of BSI inspectors
