As discussed on Lesson 2.1 and 2.

2, Jose Rizal came from a prosperous family, in which he was privileged

with his wealth, as he has been granted a great opportunity to study and access the finest school
through his intellectual capacity. I think, there is a significance connection between the academic
performance of someone with his/her family background and the state of affairs in the country but not
with his/her place of birth. As Rizal’s family background, he was able to have the power to control his
academic performance. He traveled from different countries to study their language, pursued his studies
in medicine and established his educational philosophy based on the knowledge and the countries
needs to obtain freedom and its highest vision for its people. In terms of modern family background
here in Philippines, Filipinos, remember that not all, but the majority of children who live in poverty do
not have the opportunity to study because they are struggling to exist and their current resources will
not last until the following day. This affects their performance to improve their abilities and change the
life they were live on. Additionally, living in such remote places has an impact on academic performance.
Despite of these reasons, there are still factors to consider in which in Rizal’s era, women educational
discrimination suppresses their capabilities and future. Consequently, the state of affairs in the country
has a significant impact on academic achievement, as they are the key to an improved education
system.

Today's Filipinos, in my opinion, are both liberals and conservatives. I believe that there are generations
that are conservative compared to others, just like the older generations as they were used to, for
example, the way women dress, traditional way of courtship etc. While the modern generations, like us
are more liberal due to our mindset that people can wear what they want, court someone based on his
capabilities with freedom.
