Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan”, these were the words said by the National Filipino Hero

Jose Rizal. During his lifetime, he was devoted to the belief that what would make a country
prosper are its own children. His beliefs may have been caused by the great show of bravery and
courage in the Filipino youth of his time. He believed that the future will be better sooner or
later. So I think Education is one of the key components for an individual’s success. It has the
ability to shape one’s life in the right direction. Education is a process of imparting or acquiring
knowledge, and developing the powers of reasoning and judgement. It prepares growing children
intellectually for a life with more mature understanding and sensitivity to issues surrounding
them. It improves not only the personal life of the people but also their community. Thus, one
cannot neglect the significance of Education in life and society. The importance of education in
life is immense. It facilitates quality learning for people throughout their life. It inculcates
knowledge, belief, skill, values and moral habits. It improves the way of living and raises the
social and economic status of individuals. Education makes life better and more peaceful. It
transforms the personality of individuals and makes them feel confident.
During Spanish time, when we are not in that era, the educational system is different compared
to the 21st century. In Spanish time, the Philippine educational system at 1855 was concerned
all about the needs and recommendations to propose improvisation for the Indians, wherein it
was very beneficial to them because they can learn and learn something. When it comes with
basic education, the Spanish colonial curriculum has an unfair treatment because only the
brighter students can take the 3 R's of the Spanish curriculum, which are reading, writing, and
religion. Come to think of it, what would happen to those students who don't belong to the
brighter students, although they only have the same dreams, which are to study and have
freedom? That time was very different from today. I just realized how fortunate we are,
especially now that we are in the twenty-first century, because we have Article 3, Section 4,
which is freedom of expression. We are free to express whatever we want, especially in the
face of adversity. We have equal access to education, which can help us have light and hope
that can help us pursue our dreams that might lead us to a better future.
