After sharing her three reservations about the marriage, and hearing the response from Muhammad, Umm Salama was so pleased that she accepted the proposal. • Umm Salama became the eldest of all of Muhammad's wives. She became the highest-ranking wife of Muhammad, only behind Khadija. • She was an exceptional wife of Muhammad in her faith and morals. As a woman, she carried out and completed all of her religious duties. During her marriage to Muhammad, she strived to keep him happy. She always held the utmost respect for him. She was known in society for her intelligence, political savvy, and activity in fighting for women's rights. • After the death of The Prophet, Hazrat Umm Salama contributed in many battles and died in 680 in Medina. Hazrat Rayhana • Hazrat Rayhana was born into the Banu Nadir tribe, and became part of the Banu Qurayza tribe upon her marriage. • There are different traditions and sayings about the marriage of Hazrat Rayhana and The Holy Prophet(PBUH), but all of them agree to the marriage being official. • She died in 631, 11 days after hajj, and was buried at the Al-Baqi Cemetery in Medina along with other wives of Muhammad. Hazrat Zaynab Bint Jahsh • She was born in 590 AD in Mecca. Hazrat Zaynab was said to be quick to lose her temper but also quick to calm down. She was a skilled tanner and leather-worker. She continued with this line of work throughout her life, even after she no longer needed the money • The prophet Muhammad(PBUH) proposed Hazrat Zaynab for his adopted son, Zayd Ibn Harithah at first Hazrat Zaynab refused under the influence of her brother, but then after some revelations, she accepted it, and the marriage lasted no more than two years. • After the divorce to Hazrat Zaid Ibn Harithah, she married Prophet Muhammad. • They spent some time in Medina, and after the death of the Holy Prophet(PBUH), Hazrat Zaynab died during the caliphate of Umar in the summer of 641, being the first of Muhammad's widows to die after him. She had never in her dreams expected this offer. Moved deeply by this unexpected elevation in her status, she exclaimed she would be more than happy to accept." • Some time later her father and all the men of her tribe who had been freed also accepted Islam as their religion. • Consequently, she was married to Muhammad, the Islamic prophet when he was 58 years old and she was 20, thus placing the marriage in 627-628. She was married to the prophet for four years. • She died at the age of sixty-five in the 50th year after migration and was buried with the other wives of Muhammad in Jannatul Baqi'. Hazrat Safiyya • Safiyya was born in c. 610 - 614 in Medina to Huyayy ibn Akhtab, the chief of the Jewish tribe Banu Nadir. Her mother, Barra bint Samawal, was from the Banu Qurayza tribe. • According to a source, she was married off to Sallam ibn Mishkam, who later divorced her. • When the Banu Nadir were expelled from Medina in 625, her family settled in Khaybar, an oasis near Medina. Her father and brother went from Khaybar to join the Meccan and Bedouin forces besieging Muhammad in Medina during the Battle of the Trench. When the Meccans withdrew Muhammad besieged the Banu Qurayza. After the defeat of the Banu Qurayza in 627 Safiyya's father, a long-time opponent of Muhammad, was captured and executed by the Muslims. • Muhammad advised Safiyya to convert to Islam, she accepted and agreed to became Muhammad's wife. Safiyya did not bear any children to Muhammad. • Regarding Safiyya's Jewish descent, Muhammad once said to his wife that if other women insulted her for her "Jewish heritage" and were jealous because of her beauty, she was to respond, • "My father (ancestor) Harun (Aaron) was a prophet, my uncle (his brother) Musa (Moses) was a prophet, and my husband (Muhammad) is a prophet .“ • Safiyya died in 670 or 672, during the reign of Muawiyah, and was buried in the Jannat al-Baqi graveyard. However, he later accepted Islam and became a Muslim warrior. • Her first husband was Ubayd-Allah ibn Jahsh, a brother of Zaynab bint Jahsh, whom Muhammad also married. • Muhammad sent her a proposal of marriage, which arrived on the day she completed her Iddah (widow's waiting period). • The marriage ceremony took place in Abyssinia even though Muhammad was not present. Umm Habiba chose Khalid ibn Said as her legal guardian at the ceremony. The Negus (King) of Abyssinia read out the Khutba himself, and Khalid ibn Said made a speech in reply. • After spending plenty of time in Medina, Umm Habiba died in the year 45 A.H. (664 or 665 C.E.) during the Kingship of her brother, Muawiyah I. She was buried in the Jannat al-Baqi cemetery next to other wives of Muhammad. • The Hadith literature includes about sixty-five hadiths narrated by Umm Habiba. Muhammad al-Bukhari and Muslim b. al- Hajjaj agreed on two of them, and Muslim took two of them alone. Hazrat Maria • She was born in 628 C.E, she was sent to the Islamic prophet Muhammad in 628 as a gift by Muqawqis, a Christian governor of Alexandria, during the territory's Persian occupation. She and her sister were slaves. She spent the rest of her life in Medina where she converted to Islam and lived with Muhammad where she bore a son, Ibrahim. The son would die as an infant and then she died almost five years later. • Like Rayhana bint Zayd, there is some debate between historians and scholars as to whether Maria ever became Muhammad's wife or remained a concubine, An indication that she was a concubine is that when she bore her son to Muhammad, she was set free. • Hazrat Maria died in 637C.E. (Hazrat Umm al Masakin)Hazrat Zaynab bint • She was born in Mecca in 595 AD Khuzaymah • Zaynab bint Khuzaymah, also known as Umm al-Masākīn, was the fifth wife of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. • There are conflicting reports as to whether Zaynab was "beautiful"] and refused many offers of marriage or whether she was shunned. However, in February 625 her cousin Qubaysa (brother of her first husband) arranged for her to marry Muhammad. • It has been suggested that Muhammad proposed or agreed to the match in order to provide for a deserving widow who would otherwise have been reduced to poverty. It was said the marriage was meant to reassure his followers that their deaths in battle would not mean their families would starve and be neglected. An alternative suggestion is that the marriage was politically motivated, "cultivating good relations with her own tribe of ‘Amir b. Sa’sa’ah."[16] • One story about their married life tells how a poor man came to Zaynab’s house to beg for some flour. She gave him the last of what she had and had no food for herself that night. Moved by her compassion, Muhammad told his other wives about it, saying: "If you have faith in Allah ... he will provide for your sustenance even as he does for the birds, who leave their nest hungry in the morning but return full at night". • . She died in October 625, aged about thirty. Muhammad carried her to Jannat al-Baqi and recited the funeral prayers, then three of her brothers descended into her grave to lay the corpse. Hazrat Maymunah • Hazrat Maymunah was born in 594 C.E in Mecca, Her father was Al-Harith ibn Hazn from the Hilali tribe of Mecca. Her mother was Hind bint Awf from the Himyari tribe in Yemen. • She married Muhammad in 629 in Sarif, about 10 miles (16 kilometres) from Mecca, just after the Lesser Pilgrimage. She was in her late 30s when she married him. Maymuna lived with Muhammad for three years until his death in 632. • Maymuna's death date is controversial. According to Al-Tabari: "Maymuna died in the year 61 AH (680–681 CE) during the caliphate of Yazid I. She was the last of the wives of the Prophet to die, and her age was then 80 or 81. However, Al-Tabari asserts elsewhere that Umm Salama outlived Maymuna.
