Lipid Transport
How lipid is transported to the peripheral tissues
by chylomicron?
Lipid Transport
Apo B-48

02
Apo B-48
01 TG C
Chylomicron:
- Formed when NC received Apo
C-II and Apo-E.
Nascent chylomicron: CE
TG C - Contain TG, CE and C.
- Transport TG, CE and fat to
CE the targeted tissues.
- Synthesized by intestine.

In plasma

In small intestine
Apo B-48
03

Adipose tissue
CE Lipoprotein lipase:
04 TG C - Activated by Apo C-II.
- Hydrolyse TG into free FA Capillaries
Chylomicron remnant: and glycerol.
- Formed when Apo C-II returned to HDL.
- Endocytosed by liver via Apo E mediated process.
- In liver, CR degraded into amino acid, free
cholesterol and FA.

Cholesterol Transport
How cholesterol is transported to the extrahepatic
tissues and liver by LDL?
Cholesterol Transport 02
Vesicles:
- Vesicles lose its clathrin coat.
- Fuses with other vesicle to form
01 endosome.

LDL receptor:
- Binds to the Apo B-100.
- The pit is coated by clathrin to
stabilize the pit.
- Endocytosed into the cell.

04 03
LDL: Endosome:
- Fused with lysosome. - Ph of endosome falls.
- Degraded by lysosomal - Allows LDL and its receptor to
hydrolases. dissociated.
- The products are reutilised - The receptors can be recycled.
by the cells.
Fate of Cholesterol
• Membrane synthesizing cell – Component of cell
membrane
• Testes – Testosterone
• Adrenal cortex – Cortisol
• Ovary – Estrogen
• Liver – Bile acids
