experience you have had that involved a mobile phone.

It is not unusual to see people sending text messages in the middle of a film, but I had never
seen anyone speaking on their mobile phones during a film until last month. I was at the
cinema and a few minutes after the beginning of the film a phone rang.

A man in one of the front rows picked up his phone and started talking loudly. The woman
who was sitting behind him asked him politely to switch off the phone but he ignored her. The
man was speaking loudly and laughing so he was disturbing everybody and someone else
asked him to talk outside. He refused to do so until one of the ushers reminded him that the
use of mobile phones during the film was forbidden .

Finally, the man stood up and left the cinema still speaking on his phone. He did not return to
the film, which pleased everyone.

It seems that we cannot live without our mobile phones nowadays, and this dependence also
extends to children. Many people think that the use of mobile phones by young children may
be negative, and this is also my opinion.

I agree that there are some cases in which children can take advantage of a phone, but on
most occasions, having one is useless and even harmful. Mobile phones can be useful when
they go to a summer camp or go out with friends. However, children do not only use mobile
phones on these special occasions, they use them without limits. Children mostly use them at
school or at home to send endless text messages, surf the net, or watch videos, wasting time
and money.

We have seen how much harm mobile phones can do when used to record bullying scenes,
for example. So I think parents should limit the use of mobile phones until their children are
responsible and mature enough to use them properly.

AN OPINION ESSAY

When you are writing an essay that asks you to discuss a topic or give your opinion on a
question, it is important to organize your thoughts and present your arguments clearly
and to work out the structure of your essay before you start to write.

1. Plan THREE or FOUR paragraphs:

- an introduction (saying why it is important, what the situation is...)
- one or two paragraphs in support of the argument/ giving a contrasting or
different view (with reasons)
- a conclusion (a summary of your opinion or interpretation of the facts)
