EVALUATION: The following is a framework used to assess and evaluate student achievement.
Summative Assessments....................................................................................................................70%
This includes assessments during each unit, which may take the form of: tests, quizzes, case studies, experiments,
Assessment and research reports or other performance tasks. These evaluations are designed to measure your knowledge and
Evaluation understanding (K/U), thinking/inquiry/problem solving skills (T/I), the application of your knowledge to society,
technology, and the environment (A), and your communication skills (C). More emphasis will be placed on K/U
and T/I skills.
Final Examination...............................................................................................................................30%
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS:
All summative assessments are compulsory. There are no make-ups in SCH3U.
All assignments must be submitted by the due date, in-class… not on-line, before the lesson begins.
Department FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT:
Formative assessment is essential to the learning process. Due dates are established by including time for
Specific

Expectations improve the quality of your work.
Students who fail to submit any completed work before the final due date will receive an “I”.
ABSENCES:
Students who have a planned absence for the day of any summative evaluation are to notify the teacher
several days in advance, so that alternate arrangements can be made.
Students unexpectedly absent on the day of a Test, Presentation or Performance Task may, at the discretion
of the instructor. be permitted to perform a substituted task, on the first day the student returns to school.
HOMEWORK:
All homework for each unit is outlined on a detailed Unit Plan given at the beginning of each unit. This will be
provided both in class and posted electronically. Any other course work that is not completed in class is
considered homework.
EXTRA HELP: Answer keys for each unit are available so that you can check your process work/problem solving skills.
Available at lunch If you are absent, it is your responsibilty to use D2L to keep up with daily work and access the other supports
or during breaks. available to support your own learning. Homework will be checked randomly throughout the course.
LABORATORY SAFETY SKILLS/CLASSROOM CONDUCT:
