142, Sport

In this day and age, it is widely believed that doing sport is bound to be beneficial for people in a cornucopia of ways. Not only is it
deemed to contribute to physical fitness, it can also put paid to all conceivable phobias as well as present a learning opportunity for
those wishing to acquire collaborative skills while working in a team. Personally, I share the aforementioned point of view in that I
am totally convinced that sport is an indispensable part of our life.

To begin with, sport is rightly claimed to be an effective antidote to intrinsic fears of human beings. In effect, regular workouts
contribute to bolstering people’s endurance coupled with stamina, whereby self-confidence can be boosted as well. It is
perseverance and keeping at it regardless of how arduous the exercise is that makes a person a better version of themselves. For
example, having put a good deal of effort into their success in the face of various adversities, athletes find themselves fearless and
invincible.

Furthermore, team sports are believed to teach people how to interact with other team members so as to pursue success together. To
be more specific, it is a wish to be victorious that acts as the social glue binding people and smoothing out the bumps that come up
in the process of interaction between them. In addition, soft skills acquired along the way can by all means facilitate sorting out any
issues having something to do with either work or private life. For instance, without a shadow of a doubt, the ability to mend fences
when at odds with your teammate is by far the most valuable asset a person can possess.

On balance, it stands to reason that a plethora of benefits might be gained from practising sport. It undeniably helps people to come
to terms with their innermost fears as well as teaches them to cooperate successfully in order to accomplish more. From my
standpoint, it is not for nothing that they say “a sound mind is in a sound body”.
 “put paid to” is usually used in a negative context, e.g. “put paid to hopes/dreams etc.”

CB Expert, p.148, Benefits and drawbacks of being a vegetarian today

In this day and age, it is widely believed that being a vegetarian is highly beneficial to a human body. However, there are also those
who claim that not only is it far from being healthy, it leads to detrimental consequences. From my standpoint, vegetarianism is not
everybody’s cup of tea, albeit undeniably having some upsides.

To begin with, there are a multitude of advantages regarding a vegetarian diet. Firstly, it is deemed by far the healthiest in that it
does not put excessive pressure on the person’s digestive system, being rich in vitamins and minerals. What is more, since it is not
as calorific as animal food, nutrients are absorbed more easily without any negative impact on the body. In my view, it is a recipe
for a healthier life and a considerably fitter body in the long run. Furthermore, numerous people go vegetarian simply with a view to
saving the planet, being of the opinion that animal farms arguably leave their carbon footprint, whereby climate change is looming
even larger.

Even though a plant-based diet appears to possess a whole raft of advantages on the face of it, it has a plethora of downsides, which
must not be overlooked. For one thing, what people need to bear in mind is the fact that fruit and vegetables ought to be bought in
season as they are reasonably priced as well as healthier. For another, despite the popularity of organic farming these days, the
number of produce containing genetically modified organisms is apparently soaring. Needless to say, little good do they do to a
human body. On the contrary, they are bound to cause such conditions as allergies, asthma alongside digestive issues.

In conclusion, I believe that people who would like to change their nutrition to vegetarianism must think twice, weighing up the
pros and cons of such a diet. Despite the fact that it can seem healthy and eco-friendly to steer clear of meat-based dishes, it is of
paramount importance to factor in such drawbacks as the price coupled with the nutritional value of fruit and vegetables bought out
of season.
