REACTION PAPER ON

“CONNECTED, BUT ALONE?”

The video I watched was all about how technology controls us. Mrs.
Sherry Turkle talks about how technology affects how we interact on other
people. Technology can make our lives easier but it can also make our lives
harder if we get addicted to it. Mrs. Sherry Turkle said that an 18 year old boy
said to her that “someday, someday but certainly not now, I would like to
learn how to have conversation.” We can see that the 18 year old boy does
not know how to have a face to face conversation and that is because of the
technology. She also said that we are connected but it feels like we are not
together.

Being alone is hard you cannot open up your problems to someone that
is why we seek to use the technology and cope with it, using social media to
watch videos, share photos, tweet something, and even share memes just to
cope our loneliness. Technology cannot teach us to interact on one another
but we can teach ourselves to interact with one another, I agree with Mrs.
Sherry Turkle that communicating on other people face to face is better than
communicating through online. Saying I love you feels different when you say
it or receive it through online, just like how Mrs. Sherry felt when she
received a text from her daughter, we cannot learn and understand each
other through online because we can pretend to be someone else on online.

Technology can separate us from the real world that can even stop us
from interacting to people that is why is a great opportunity to watch the TED
talk of Mrs. Sherry Turkle pointing that too much use of technology can
change us not in a good way but in a bad way and Mrs. Sherry left us with an
amazing words “We expect more from technology and less from each other”
It is great that we see and interact with each other in virtual and physical and
can build relationships.
