Connected, but Alone

Sherry Turkle’s TED talk, “Connected, but Alone” is about the problematic
relationship about technology. She says that we are allowing ourselves to control by a small
device that we didn’t notice that we’re already spacing out ourselves with others and
neglecting their presence. She also said that we rather post what we feel or share it on the
social media rather than sharing it with people around us. She also include that people are
so occupied to their phones even they are attending meetings, classes and even funeral.

We cannot deny the fact that technology really helped our lives a lot of times,
example of it is during pandemic. We are not allowed to go outside or hangout with friends
and family so we just use social media platform just to get in touch with them also to shop
some things that we need and order foods. Because of technology, it improved the way we
lives and it make our life easier and more efficient. Technology may have many good things
also it have bad things and that is addiction. As what I’ve watch, Turkle mention that people
rather share what they feel on social media than sharing it with other people around them
and I can relate on it. Because of the social media platform, I’ve meet a lot of people that
turns into friendship and relationship thanks to the power of technology. People on the
social media are better than the people us but we should careful because sometimes we
don’t really know who we are talking to, they are strangers, and they might fake their
identity.

I can say that the video is relatable because I can relate on it and I also laugh while
watching because of some realizations that hit me. Technology nowadays is one of the
distractions in our life and we should moderate using it. We should not depend on the social
media world, we should be awake and start to interact with people on real life.
