WHAT KIDS OF DESIGN

List two variables, "predictors" or "IVs" related to the Child's academic achievement alongside language
learning, as well as an outcome of interest. Write a brief hypothesis about them and write three brief
ways you could test your hypothesis with a single-subject design, a repeated measures factorial design,
a between-groups factorial design, or a mixed design (choose three of the four methods listed). Be sure
to specify what your IVs and DVs are.

The main objective of this study is to establish the benefits that integrating a foreign language into the
school curriculum, in order to help boost the child’s overall academic achievements. The introduction of
language at an early age in school can suggest having positive effects on students in school as well as the
home. Throughout this study, educators and parents can develop a vision of how they would improve
the quality of education in their schools, whether the null hypothesis is suggested to be accepted or
rejected.

♦ A single-subject design is achieved by using a questionnaire/survey. Participants will do a short

survey to see if the introduction of language in the curriculum will make a difference in the students
within their academics. The survey will include students ranging from the ages of 7 to 15 years old (or
from the levels of elementary to middle school). Some of the target variables would be age, language
spoken (if coming from multilingual households), languages learned (if the second language is learned
from school), and gender.

♦ First, a group of single-language learners and multilingual students will be given a survey identifying
objects and numbers to memorize via. examination method with simple questions, analyzing the
comparative data points resulting from the answers procured from each participant within the groups
anonymously. The participants will also be asked about their current grade level, grade point average,
and feelings around their current curriculum (whether they find their current learning levels easy or
challenging).

♦ The survey would pertain to a 5-point Likert scale. A single ANOVA test comparing the age, gender,
and language learned and the answers the students have achieved from the questions within the
examination survey. Investigating trends, of whether there was greater participation in gender, and age
and what language was more prevalent among the variables. I would examine the variables and see if
there was any significance between them.

I will also run the Levene’s test of error variances and check whether the error variance of the
dependent variable is equal across groups along with the results of the one-way ANOVA evidence
compiled together.

The survey is most likely going to be presented to the participants via. electronic methods. Early
childhood development does hold a special place in my heart, and I do intend to share the results
procured so that parents and educators can make well-rounded decisions when it comes to language
learning for students. A lot of advancements have been proposed when it comes to learning a new
language but there also can be added pressures that may not need to be there at all, if the null
hypothesis is rejected. In the future, I would like to expand the study to see how critical a foreign
language is if it is integrated into the curriculum at a later age as well.
