Love
A short play
By Valeria Chablé Villanueva
Time and place: 2023, present day. A fairy village far from human contact.
Diane: fairy who is determined and driven. She is willing to do whatever it takes to be with
Terence, even if it means going against the rules of her village. Diane is passionate and caring,
and she is always looking for ways to improve the world around her.
Terence: fairy who is kind and caring. He is in love with Diane and is willing to do whatever it
takes to be with her, even if it means going against the rules of his village. Terence is a
peacemaker at heart and is always looking for ways to bring people together and resolve
conflicts.
Lila: fairy who is the leader of Diane's village. She is strict and follows the rules closely, but she
is also open to negotiation and finding ways to bring about peace.
Marcus: fairy who is the leader of Terence's village. He is traditional and follows the rules
closely, but he is also willing to listen and consider alternative solutions to conflicts.
Setting: fictional world where there are two separate fairy villages that have been at odds with
each other for centuries. The action takes place in a meeting room where Diane and Terence are
attempting to negotiate peace between their villages and find a way to be together openly. The
room is decorated with flowers and has a natural, earthy feel to it. There is a large table in the
center of the room where Diane, Terence, Lila, and Marcus are seated. The room is surrounded
by windows that allow natural light to pour in, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The
meeting room is located in a larger building that serves as a hub for the fairies and is surrounded
by a beautiful, enchanted forest.

Scene 1:
(Diane and Terence enter)

DIANE
I can't believe I'm falling for you. You're from the enemy village.

TERENCE
I know, it's forbidden for us to even speak to each other. But I can't help how I feel.

DIANE
What are we going to do? We can't just ignore our duty to our respective villages.
TERENCE
I know, it's not going to be easy. But we'll find a way to make it work. I promise.

DIANE
But how? Our villages have been at odds for so long, and if anyone finds out about us, we could
be punished or even exiled.

TERENCE
I know, but we can't let that stop us. We have to find a way to be together, no matter what the
consequences. We'll just have to be careful and keep our relationship a secret until we can figure
out a solution.

DIANE
I don't know if I can do this. It's so difficult to have to hide our love and constantly worry about
being caught.

TERENCE
I understand how you feel, but I promise it will all be worth it in the end. Just think of all the
time we'll have together, just the two of us. And we can find ways to sneak away and see each
other as much as possible.

DIANE
I suppose you're right. It's just going to be so hard to keep this secret.

TERENCE
I know it won't be easy, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to be with you. And I have faith
that we'll find a way to make this work.
Scene 2:

(Later that day)

DIANE
You know, I've been thinking. What if we try to find a way to bring peace between our villages?
Maybe if we can find a solution to the conflict, we won't have to hide our love anymore.

TERENCE
That's a great idea, Diane. Maybe if we can show that our love for each other can bring about
peace and understanding, it will help to bridge the gap between our villages.

DIANE
I think you're right. Maybe we can start by talking to the leaders of our respective villages and
seeing if they're open to negotiation.

TERENCE
We should also try to involve the other members of the village in the peace process. Maybe if
they see that we're trying to find a solution, they'll be more willing to listen and work towards a
peaceful resolution.

DIANE
Yes, I agree. It's worth a try. I'm tired of living in a world where our love is forbidden. I want to
be able to be with you openly and without fear of punishment.

TERENCE
I feel the same way. Let's start by setting up a meeting with the leaders of our villages and see if
we can start the peace process. It won't be easy, but I believe we can do it.

DIANE
I believe in us too. Let's do this.
(Diane and Terence hold
hands and look at each other
with determination. They turn
and exit the stage together,
ready to start their journey
towards peace and a future
together.)

(End of scene)

Scene 3:

(The scene opens on a

meeting room where Diane
and Terence are sitting across
from the leaders of their
respective villages, a fairy
named Lila and a fairy named
Marcus.)

LILA
I must say, I am surprised to see the two of you here together. As you know, our villages have
been at odds for centuries and any form of communication between us is strictly prohibited.

DIANE
We understand the history between our villages, Lila. But we believe that it's time for a change.
We love each other and we don't want to have to hide our relationship any longer.

MARCUS
Love? Between the two of you? This is outrageous. You know very well that relationships
between members of different villages are forbidden. It's a recipe for disaster.
TERENCE
We understand the risks, Marcus, but we believe that our love can be a force for good. It can
bring about understanding and cooperation between our villages. We want to find a way to end
the conflict and live in peace.

LILA
I must admit, your words are compelling. But it's not that simple. There are centuries of bad
blood and misunderstanding between our people. It will take more than just one relationship to
heal those wounds.

DIANE
We understand that, Lila. But we believe that if we can find a way to open a dialogue and work
towards a peaceful resolution, it will be a step in the right direction. We're willing to do whatever
it takes to make this happen.

MARCUS
I must say, I'm impressed by your dedication. But it's not just up to us. There are many members
of our respective villages who will need to be convinced of the value of peace.

LILA
That's true. But perhaps with your help, we can start a dialogue and work towards a resolution. It
won't be easy, but it's worth a try.

(Diane and Terence exchange hopeful glances.)

TERENCE
We're willing to do whatever it takes to bring about peace and understanding between our
villages. We'll work with you to find a solution.
LILA
Then let's get to work. Together, we can bring about a brighter future for all of our people.

(End of scene)

Scene 4:

(The scene opens on a village

square where a large group of
fairies from both villages are
gathered. Diane and Terence
stand at the front, addressing
the crowd.)

DIANE
Thank you all for coming today. We know that there has been a lot of tension and conflict
between our villages for a long time, but we believe it's time for a change. We believe that by
working together, we can find a way to live in peace and harmony.

TERENCE
We understand that it won't be easy. There are centuries of bad blood and misunderstanding
between us. But we believe that with open communication and a willingness to listen to each
other, we can find a way to move forward and build a better future for all of us.

(There are murmurs of approval and dissent from

the crowd.)
FAIRY IN THE CROWD
How can we trust them? They've always been our enemies. How do we know they're not just
trying to trick us?
DIANE
We understand that it's hard to trust someone who has been an enemy for so long. But we're here
to show you that we're sincere in our desire for peace. We want to find a way to coexist and build
a better future for all of us."

FAIRY IN THE CROWD

But what about all the injustices that have been inflicted upon us by their village? How can we
just forget about those?

TERENCE
We understand that there have been wrongdoings on both sides. But holding onto grudges and
seeking revenge will only continue the cycle of violence. We need to find a way to move past the
past and work towards a peaceful resolution.

(There are more murmurs from the crowd, but this

time they seem more receptive to what Diane and
Terence are saying.)

LILA
I agree with Diane and Terence. It's time for a change. We can't keep living in the past. We need
to find a way to move forward and build a better future for all of us.

MARCUS
I agree. Let's put aside our differences and work towards a peaceful resolution. It won't be easy,
but it's worth a try.

(The crowd begins to cheer and clap, showing their

support for Diane, Terence, and the leaders of their
respective villages.)
