Bawat Isa Mahalaga

WHO WE ARE

‘Bawa’t Isa Mahalaga’ (B1M) is a citizen’s call for godly governance.

It is a movement of Filipinos who believe in the sacredness of life and the value and
dignity of every person, who uphold the sovereignty of the Filipino people in a ‘Nation
under God.’

Having found common cause with former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes A. Sereno in the defense of
democracy and the rule of law, various churches, faith-based organizations, cause-oriented groups,
and like-minded individuals work together to pursue national transformation along godly lines.

Being part of the B1M Movement is a solemn pledge that we will stay the course on a path that values
humanity and honors God. We will participate in the task of addressing the nation’s problems, and we
will help create a better society for the next generation. We commit to love our country and work for
her welfare until it has attained its destiny as a blessed nation.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Bawa’t Isa Mahalaga is a conviction that every person has “Men are born equal, naked, and
inherent dignity and worth. Families, communities, and the without chains. They were not created

the community for the benefit of all. Every person is called to live - JOSE RIZAL

building.

B1M believes that there can be no change in the Philippines without a prior change in individual
Filipinos. In the only Christian country in Asia, that change is properly experienced and can last only
through the life-renewing work of Jesus Christ.

We believe that beyond socio-political adjustments, we Filipinos must address the nation’s
longstanding problems by weaving the gospel into the very fabric of society.

B1M seeks to effect national transformation by ushering individual Filipinos into an empowering
journey with God. Only as they understand their role as image bearers of the Creator God can Filipinos
fully emerge as a sovereign, just, righteous, and compassionate community with a shared sense of
destiny, enjoying genuine democracy and prosperity. It is with this hope that B1M draws people
together to work for justice, righteousness, truth, compassion and mercy in governance and in all
institutions of society.

B1M is a clarion call to all who believe that we are “our brother’s keepers.” We are to work for the
welfare of all, especially those who cannot help themselves. We speak out in behalf of those who have
no voice and call the powers-that-be to account. We call on everyone to step out in faith and join us in
the grand and glorious task of nation-building.

THE ROADMAP TO NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION: THE 7RS

1. Recognition
We recognize the dignity of each person. We hold ourselves up to the Constitution as the “sovereign
Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society...” A
careful and honest examination of our situation is needed. This means taking stock of the ills of the
nation and the role we played in it. It also includes identifying a vision and setting the standards of
national life in accordance with our highest values.

2. Restoration
National healing will only begin when we acknowledge the injustices that have been committed to our
fellow Filipinos and our national heritage. There can be no justice without accountability. Restoration
must be made to the people, giving each person her due. We will say no to corruption, degradation,
and disenfranchisement.

3. Reconciliation
We choose to return to the standards of good. We will start within ourselves and build bridges where
there is division. We will welcome all who wish to contribute to the national project. We will bring back
dignity, respect, and fellowship through genuine service. We will demand from government the
preferential option for the poor and vulnerable. We will foster unity with all Filipinos, regardless of
class, gender, ethnicity, or faith.

4. Renewal
We stand for truth as the foundation for a just and equitable society. We will encourage the raising of
many voices so that the government cannot deny the people’s will. We will live the value system in our
Constitution, and will educate the youth on the inherent nobility of the Filipino enshrined in our Basic
Law. We will reject historical revisionism.

5. Resistance
We will resist efforts to undermine the institutions that represent us. We will uphold the Rule of Law
as our protection against repression. We will defend the rights, of every Filipino, even against the
government. It will be our duty to remind those in power of the Constitution and our inalienable rights.
We will call out abuse whenever we see it.

6. Reform
Our vision requires far-reaching reforms to change an unfair society, develop a culture of accountability
and reverse the culture of impunity. We will embed robust systems that will ensure meaningful
participation and the protection of the people’s rights and welfare.

7. Rejoice
When we attain a nation that is inclusive, diverse, respectful, nurturing and united, we can be proud
of our national identity. We will celebrate the realization of our vision and protect our gains as a people.
