2.1 GRATING

The MINIMATE may be purchased with several gratings, each in its

own kinematic mount. With a single backi ng plate, the
gratings are
easily changed by unscrewing the grating mount from the backing plate.
With the normal 1200 qroove/mm qrating blazed at 5000A,
dispersion
is about 40A/mmthroughout the region f rom 3Q00A to 9000A.
Five
pairs of sii ts are provided, each 20 mm tall. SIit widths are 0.25 mm
0.50 mm, 1. 25 mm, 2.5 mm, 5.0 mm and correspond to Spectral bandpasses
of 10A, 20A, 50A, 100A, and 200A, respect ive ly. With slits remOved,
the bandpass is 500A. In addition, 2 target sIits are provided for
alignment of the MINIMATE to other opti cal systems .,

When the MINIMATE iS coup led to a larger monochromator, the spacing

is in adeguate for focusing on the slit of the larger instrument.

4.2 SYNCHRONOUS SCANNING MOTOR, Cat. #1658B

For conti nous wavelength scan at a constant speed, a synchronous

motor is offered. Interchangeab le gears provide speeds of 125, 250,
500, 1000A/min.
4.3 OPTICAL BAR MOUNT (Platform, Cat. #1661A)

Bolts to the MINIMATE base; fits Zeiss type optical bars (triangular)
5.0 OPERATION

NOTE: Front surface optics are used in the MINIMATE.

Since these are easily damageab le, protect
them from dust, fumes, etc. Wear Iint-free
gloves when handl ing mirrors and gratings to
reduce possibility of fingerprints.

5.1 Instal I MINIMATE to suit the purpose, i.e., bolt on the 1661A
olatform, attach to opti cal bar, attach bar to microscope or
larger spectrome ter etc.

i dent, before proceeding to instal| the motor drive.

attach the dri ve, remove thumbscrew (A) from the motor assemb ly and sii de the motor out of
9 channel. Place channel (C) over mounting holes next to hand scanning knob and attach it
MINIMATE or DOUBLEMATE with screws (D) & (E). Slide proper gear with Its hub facing the
or on the motor shaft and Iock the set screws. Place the motor over channe| (C) and
LL +htumbscrew (A) position it to the extreme end of travel which the slotted screw hole
lows, away trom the scann ing knob. SIide the second gear over the shaft protruding from
and knob and lock it on its flats. Bring the motor and gear into proper mesh with the
2d knob gear. Few mi Is of play between the gear teeth should remain. Tighten
thumbscrew (A).
AL 1690 MI CROMATE, remove the scanning knob and mount the hub (J) on the leadscrew shaft
tensic.. (G),

STION: Do not leave the scanni ng motor run unattended. Should it be allowed to
scan to the
chanical travel of the MINIMATE or DOUBLEMATE the motor wil| not stop and may burm out.

Duld you desi re to hand scan, just release thumbscrew (A) and slide the motor away to the
travel and out of gear mesh.
