Content Standard: Performance Standard:
The learners demonstrate understanding of... The learners should be able to...
the structure of biomolecules, which are made up
mostly of a limited number of elements, such as
carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen
I. Objectives:
Most Essential Learning Competencies:

Recognize the major categories of biomolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids
( S10MT-IVc-d-22)

Specific Objectives:
At the end of the period, 80% of the students should master the following objectives with 85% proficiency.
1. determine the chemical nature of nucleic acid and proteins and its uses;
2. make a graphic organizer about nucleic acid and proteins;
3. realize the significance of proteins in our diet.

III. Procedure

A. Motivation/Drill/Review

Directions: Students will answer the Biomolecules Quiz prepared by the teacher as a way of recalling the concepts
learned from the past week.

CORRECT ANSWERS:
1. A Carbohydrates 2. C. Nucleic Acids 3. C. Lipids 4. B. Proteins 5. B. Monosaccharide
B. Vocabulary Development / Unlocking of Difficulties

To present the scientific terms to be discussed, the students will answer an ANAGRAM. Three (3) clues
will be given for each mystery word. Using the clues provided, the students will unscramble the letters by
determining the correct letter sequence in the boxes to come up with the correct answer for each number

C. Lesson Proper/Presentation of the Lesson

1. Begin the lesson by presenting some of the important information about the chemical nature of Nucleic Acids
and Proteins.

Mention that DNA as an example of Nucleic Acids is used in Examination of DNA variations. This method can
provide clues about where a person's ancestors might have come from and about relationships between families.
Aside from this, it is also used in Crimonology DNA profiling can be used in old or unsolved crimes or to identify
human remains. – Integration with Biology, Araling Panlipunan and Social Science subjects.

2. The learners will answer the following SLM Activities.

Answer the following activities:
• Activity 1: Guide My Pair! A and B
• Activity 2: Proteintially Healthy!

3. Students will present their work after the given allotted time.

GUIDE QUESTIONS:
Act. 1
1. What are the four nitrogenous bases of DNA?
2. Which nitrogenous base can be found in RNA but not in DNA?

Act. 2
What are the different uses of protein shown above?

D. Generalization

Students will make a graphic organizer like the ones given below to summarize the day’s lesson.

Nucleic Acids

CHEMICAL NATURE

CHEMICAL NATURE
E. Application

With the many uses of protein, are you pro or against carnivore diet? Cite brief explanation.

F. Evaluation

Students will answer the formative assessment.

Direction: Read each question carefully. Choose the letter of the BEST answer.

1. Which of the following biomolecules has a main function of storing genetic information?
A. Carbohydrates B. Lipids C. Nucleic Acids D. Protein
2. What do you call a biomolecule that the main function is muscle and organ tissue development, and it gives you
structure and mobility?
A. Carbohydrates B. Lipids C. Nucleic Acids D. Protein
3. Which of the following bases is not present in DNA?
A. Adenine B. Guanine C. Thymine D. Uracil
4. What is the complementary strand of the DNA primary structure ATGCCGATC?
A. AUGCCGAUC C. UACGGCUAG
B. TACGGCTAG D. GATCGGCAT
5. Felipe and Juan are best friends. Although best of friends they have their distinct diet. Felipe likes
to eat bread which is rich in proteins and low in carbohydrates while Juan likes to eat rice which is
rich in carbohydrates and low in proteins. What idea can we conclude from this scenario?
A. Juan grew up in the province.
B. Felipe does not know how to cook.
C. Felipe’s family is way much richer than Juan's.
D. Eating bread which has high protein content and fewer carbohydrates make Felipe masculine and tall but do not have
enough energy to last in long hours of activities while Juan who eats rice which is high in carbohydrates and less protein
content makes Juan stout and thin in physique, but he has a lot of energy for long hours of work.

Group Activities and Presentation will be graded according to the following rubric:
