CHAPTER 4

TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND PERFORMANCE

DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING:

1. How does transformational leadership improve performance?

Transformational leaders can provide the support that makes for hardy

followers, quality performance, and effective decision making, despite the

presence of distressful conditions. Intellectually stimulating leaders help their

followers to create better ways to cope with conflict. Individually considerate

leaders may help to set up a social network of support to overcome the feelings

of stress and burnout. But whether the leadership emerges and whether it is of

consequence are contingent on situational circumstances.

2. What is the impact of the transformational leadership style on the personal

outcomes of the follower?

Transformational leaders guide and encourage employee mindfulness by

enunciating a vision that escalates employees’ consciousness and consideration

for the significance of organizational values, goals, and performances. The

personal results of followers are significantly impacted by the transformational

leadership style. This type of leadership is characterized by leaders who excite

and encourage their subordinates to go above and beyond their own

expectations.
3. What are some examples of transformational leadership?

The essence of transformational leadership is inspiring and encouraging

followers to realize their greatest potential and effect good change. Examples of

transformational leadership include the following:

Nelson Mandela: Throughout his life, the former South African president and

anti-apartheid activist demonstrated transformational leadership. He inspired

people to fight against injustice, inspired them with his vision of a united and

democratic South Africa, and gave them the freedom to be accountable for their

own actions.

Mahatma Gandhi: By organizing the masses and encouraging peaceful

resistance, Gandhi, the leader of the Indian freedom movement, demonstrated

transformational leadership. He inspired self-control, gave his followers a sense

of direction and morality, and guided them in the direction of independence and

societal transformation.

Steve Jobs: Steve Jobs, the late co-founder of Apple Inc., is frequently used

as a model for transformative leaders. Through his continuous pursuit of

excellence, Jobs transformed numerous industries and had a clear vision for

innovation. His dynamic management approach encouraged workers to use their

imaginations, take chances, and make technological advancements.

Oprah Winfrey is an example of transformational leadership. She is a media

tycoon, charitable donor, and talk show host. She made use of her platform to

empower people, bring significant social issues to light, and encourage personal

development. She has become a role model for many thanks to her capacity to

emotionally connect with others and motivate constructive change.

4. Define Self-Efficacy in your own words.

Self-efficacy is a psychological term that describes a person's confidence

in their capacity to carry out and achieve particular objectives. It is a person's

opinion of their own skill and efficacy in handling different circumstances. The

starting point for a person's self-efficacy views is their past experiences,

successes, and observations of others. They affect how people approach and

deal with difficulties, how much effort they put into their work, and how resilient

they are in the face of obstacles. While low self-efficacy can result in emotions of

powerlessness, less effort, and a higher propensity to give up, high self-efficacy

is linked to increased motivation, tenacity, and overall success.

5. How do you think transformational leaders used aligned goals and values to

influence group performance?

By establishing a common vision and motivating their followers to work

toward it, transformational leaders can impact group performance through the

use of goals and values that are aligned. As a result, the group's objectives are in

line with the members' values and aspirations, giving it a clear sense of direction

and purpose.
