quickly find the commands that you need to complete a task.
RIBBON USER INTERFACE/EXCEL RIBBON

Microsoft Excel ribbon is the row of tabs and icons at the top of the Excel window that allows
you to quickly find, understand and use commands for completing a certain task. It looks like a
kind of complex toolbar, which it actually is.

The ribbon first appeared in Excel 2007 replacing the traditional toolbars and pull-down menus
found in previous versions. In Excel 2010, Microsoft added the ability to personalize the ribbon.

The ribbon in Excel is made up of four basic components: tabs, groups, dialog launchers, and
command buttons.

 Ribbon tab contains multiple commands logically sub-divided into groups.

 Ribbon group is a set of closely related commands normally performed as part of a
larger task.
 Dialog launcher is a small arrow in the lower-right corner of a group that brings up more
related commands. Dialog launchers appear in groups that contain more commands
than available space.
 Command button is the button you click to perform a particular action.

NAME BOX

The Name Box in Excel is located on the left side of the Excel window. It is used to give a name
to a table or any cell. For any normal cells, by default, the name is the row character and the
column number, such as cell A1. However, we can check it when we click on the cell.

FORMULA BAR

What is the role of the formula bar?

The formulas bar, sometimes called FX bar, displays text or number data in active or current
cells, formulas in an active cell or range of cells in place of a selected data series in an Excel
chart.

The formula bar is an input bar, below the ribbon. It shows the content of the active cell and
you can also use it to enter a formula in a cell.

CELLS

A cell is a smallest but most powerful part of a spreadsheet. You can enter your data into a cell
either by typing or by copy-paste. Data can be a text, a number, or a date. You can also
customize it by changing its size, font color, background color, borders, etc. Every cell is
identified by its cell address, cell address contains its column number and row number

Cells are the boxes you see in the grid of an Excel worksheet, like this one. Each cell is
identified on a worksheet by its reference, the column letter and row number that intersect at
the cell's location. This cell is in column D and row 5, so it is cell D5. The column always comes
first in a cell reference.

What is cell in Excel example?

A cell is the intersection of a row and a column. Columns are identified by letters (A, B, C), while
rows are identified by numbers (1, 2, 3). Each cell has its own name—or cell address—based on
its column and row. In this example, the selected cell intersects column C and row 5, so the cell
address is C5.

SCROLL BAR

There are two scroll bars in Excel: a vertical scroll bar is used to view the data in Excel from up
and down, and another scroll bar is a horizontal scroll bar used to view the data from left to the
right. We can hide or unhide the scroll bar from the “Options” category in the “Files” tab, where
we will find the “Advanced” tab and the option to hide scroll bars.

If you have a huge set of data inserted into the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, you will surely
need to use the function of scrollbars in Excel. The interactive scrollbar in Microsoft Excel is very
beneficial for users to use Excel when filled with lots of data. You do not have to type a
particular value manually to go to the required cell. You can easily use the scroll bar to select
the values from a supplied list, saving your time.

separate panes, you can scroll in both panes independently. Select below the row where you
want the split, or the column to the right of where you want the split. On the View tab, in the
Window group, click Split.

As seen in the image above, you can split the Excel screen horizontally using the split box
located at the top of the vertical scrollbar.

The vertical split box is located in the bottom right corner of the Excel screen, between the
vertical and horizontal scrollbars.

Using the split box rather than the split option located under the View tab allows you to split
the screen in one direction only – which is what most users want.
