Objective: To tell and write time using an analog clock.

Code: M1ME-IVb-3

Grade Level: Grade 4

Subject: Mathematics

(1) Review: Review the concepts of telling time using a digital clock. Ask the students to identify the
different parts of a digital clock and how to read the time.

(2) Motivation: Show the students an analog clock and ask them if they have seen one before. Ask
them how it is different from a digital clock. Play a game where the students match the digital time
to the analog clock.

(3) Activity:

(a) Clock Making: Provide the students with a template to make their own analog clock. They can use
paper plates, cardboard, or any material available. The students will cut out the clock's face and
hands and assemble them together. They will label each number on the clock and color it in.

(b) Time Bingo: Create a bingo card with different analog clock times on it. The students will cross
out the time on their card when it is called out. The first student to get five in a row wins.

(c) Time Relay: Divide the class into two teams. Each team will have an analog clock and a set of time
cards. The first student in each team will draw a time card and set the clock to the correct time. They
will then pass the clock and card to the next student until all students have had a turn. The first team
to finish wins.

(4) Analysis: Ask the students to identify the different parts of an analog clock and how to read the
time. Provide them with examples and ask them to demonstrate how to tell the time on an analog
clock.

(5) Abstraction: Ask the students to compare and contrast the differences between a digital clock
and an analog clock. Discuss how to convert digital time to analog time and vice versa.
(6) Application: Provide the students with a real-life problem related to telling time on an analog
clock. For example, "If you have a doctor's appointment at 2:30 pm and it takes 1 hour and 15
minutes to get there, what time do you need to leave your house?"

(7) Assessment:

1. What is the difference between a digital clock and an analog clock?

Answer: A digital clock displays time in numbers while an analog clock displays time using hands and
numbers.

2. How do you tell time on an analog clock?

Answer: You read the hour hand and the minute hand to determine the time.

3. What is the time when the hour hand is on 6 and the minute hand is on 9?

Answer: 6:45

4. What is the time when the hour hand is on 3 and the minute hand is on 12?

Answer: 3:00

5. What is the time when the hour hand is on 10 and the minute hand is on 6?

Answer: 10:30

(8) Assignment: Ask the students to make a list of activities they do every day and write down the
time they do it using an analog clock.
