1 TASK 01
(i.) Select any three (3) standard textbooks on “Human Language Processing” or “Nat-
ural Language Processing” and interrogate their definition or explanation for key
terms in the subject-matter of this course. That is: (i) Language, (ii) Human or
Natural, and (iii) Processing.
(ii.) Discuss and provide your views on the subject-matter of “Human Language Pro-
cessing” in terms of: (i) The object of study, (ii) The Kind of study and (iii) The
purpose of study.
(iii.) Interrogate the following terms as used in conventional literature in the context of
this course: (i) Axiom, (ii) Term or word, (iii) Nature, (iv) Language, (v) Body
and (vi) Mind.

Study the vocabulary of English language kinship terms in Table 1 and their “equivalent”
in any indigenous African language such as Yorùbá, Igbo, Hausa, Edo, Efic, Tiv, etc. of
your choice.
1. Obtain and tabulate the English and your translation of the words into those in your
language of choice.
3. Form six (6) sentences with any six of the terms in Table 1 and translate the sen-
tences into those in your language of choice. [Each member of your group should
produce a sentence]
4. If you were required to develop a machine that translates from English to your lan-
guage of choice, what precautions will you take.

The software ELIZA chatbot was developed by Joseph Weizenbaum to demonstrate Hu-
man language processing technology in automated dialogue system for the English lan-
guage.
