The Island of the Dolls, built in
1950, was originally owned by
Don Julián Santana Barrera.
They were originally
placed by the former owner of
the island, Julián Santana
Barrera, who died from a heart
Legend
owner of the island was a neighbour in the area. He used to
have an ordinary life, but everything changed in an incident.
One day, a young girl drowned entangled among the lilies of
the canal, and her body was found on the banks of the
Santampa chinampas. That’s a tragedy but Santana claimed
to have heard the girl crying out "I want my doll" before she
drowned. Santana was terrified and his fear made him lose
his body control. The only thing he did was hung up the doll
he found near the girl's body after the incident.
His cowardice and guilt ruined his life, made him
unsecured, and panicked all the time. Furthermore, after the
event, every time he went outside, he claims to have found a
new doll hanging from one of the trees. The supernatural was
the last straw for his mental illness. His corpse was later
found in the same spot the girl drowned, unknown cause of
death. Many believe that his death was caused by the girl's
spirit, which still haunts the island.
Status quo
Due to this spooky legend, the place had been
abandoned. However, its special characteristics
and legend still attracted many tourists to visit
it.
Full of dolls hanging from trees, buildings
covered with cobwebs and insects, and sometime
a special door gift will be dropped for you ---a doll
head without eyes! It becomes a well-known place
by its creepy and spooky atmosphere.
