In this lesson… students will practice finding the area and perimeter of different
Overview 2D shapes to reinforce the material they were introduced to the week prior.

● MA4.7 The student will solve practical problems that involve

Standards of determining perimeter and area in U.S. Customary and metric units.
Learning ● MA4.8a) The student will estimate and measure length and describe the
result in U.S. Customary and metric units;
Students will be able to…
● Students will be able to solve problems to determine area and perimeter
and create shapes from a given area and perimeter. They will also
Objectives estimate the area and perimeter of real-world objects and understand
how they pertain to real life.

I will be able to solve problems on the area and perimeter of polygons.

Learning Target
Necessary Prior addition and multiplication, interpreting and solving real-world problems,
recognizing polygon & names
Knowledge
Teacher will provide:
● 1cm grid paper & yellow cubes
● sheet to record answers to gallery walk
Student will need:
Materials ● writing utensil
● white board
● chromebook

I will ask what the class remembers about area and perimeter from last week
and I will show them this flocabulary video.

● I will review what the students already learned on Friday, including the
definitions of both area and perimeter.
● Then I will do a few practice examples to reinforce that knowledge.
Instructional ● After a couple of examples, I will introduce a newer concept of irregular
shapes and finding the area/perimeter of those.
Activities & ● When this part of the lesson is finished, the students will break out into
Strategies small groups and participate in different activities. (these activities will
continue over the next day while I am not there*)
○ small table group with CT
○ gallery walk
○ grip paper worksheet
○ Seesaw
● If time permits, the students will participate in a Blooket review game.

On Wednesday as a continuation of my lesson, I will present a few slides with

numberless problems and a couple more area and perimeter slides.

The lesson will be completed on Wednesday as a review of all they’ve learned.

On Wednesday, the students will do a few more examples to review and will
Closure Activity take their test on Friday.

Key Vocabulary or area, perimeter, array, model, square, rectangle, sides, length, width, polygon,
product, sum, formula
Concepts
This lesson will help the students review for a test on Friday.
Assessments
No students have any special needs or disabilities that require specific
accommodations, but I will work with certain students in small groups to give
Accommodations help or clarification and to ensure understanding.
